Rally GB

Featured Replies

I was up at the Rally GB last month for the full 4 days and got to see a lot of Colin (McRae) in the Fabia. Damn, it and he were both rapid and says he's still got more to come!

Lets hope he drives for Skoda next year in the World Rally Championship. That will be something to watch.

Skoda missed one hell of a trick though... they didn't have any merchandise on sale and the girls on the Skoda stand were turning people away in droves... Marketing 'FUBAR' there from SkodaUK :thumbdwn:

Have to see what happens for next season.

Skoda have offered him the drive for Rally Australia in November but he has told them he's seeking long term commitment. Skoda decide at the end of October if they're staying in WRC so I doubt much will happen until then.

I've also heard rumblings on the grapevine that McRae may drive for Mitsubishi in 2006.

From what I had heard Gronholm was in discussion with Mitsubishi but was waitng to see if Puegeot were going to put out a non works team next year like Citroen may be doing, but with him signing for Ford that has all been thrown up in the air.

As for McRae on Rally GB I didn't think he was that fast - okay he has a real on the edge balls out style but while you're going sideways you're loosing time. He was no where near as quick on Halfway, where I was marsahlling, than the Gronholm, Loeb, Solberg, MArtin and Meeke.

There is a serious lack of products/merchandise from skoda motorsport, they need to get their act together.

Rallying will soon be down to three teams at the rate teams drop out.At least there's a chance of coming third if skoda stick with it

Considering that he hasn't driven a WRC in nearly 2 years, I would say that, that was a gutsy drive and was putting in some good stage times. Also, with the fact that Nicky Grist (Co-driver) and Colin havn't competed together for 3 years that will also have bearing on their stage times.

When running on pace notes you have to have amazing trust in 1) Your notes and 2) Your navigator calling the right note...so this by default will have a bearing on your speed.

When I was rally driving myself a couple of years ago, I was competing at least once a month and rally driving instructing 1 day a week. That meant I had a good competitive edge. As I havn't driven a rally car now in 10 months due to my business commitments, I feel I will be a damn lot rustier than he was :)
