Interestingly if you've got a lease car, it is fixed service (our scout will be) as obviously they want it serviced regularly - hence why would this be different for you personally.

My vrs is on variable but it's a co car so won't have it for that many years / isn't my problem (financially at least if it goes wrong) - although I might buy it off em after 3 years of it's cheap enough - will argue it's not been serviced regularly

 

I've had 3 Skoda's on lease - and all were set to variable from new. However, I'm yet to see what is variable about it as all 3 have popped up a service light at 18,000 miles (give or take 300), so it just seems 'variable' is a longer service interval, using the same oil as those cars on fixed (10,000 mile) intervals.

Yes, I was wrong - now we have the lease scout (picked it up Monday) it is actually set to variable 30,000Km / 2 yr display intervals as you say - I've checked this with the dealer and the QI reference is QI6 so it is correct as variable - dealer just told me wrong when we ordered it, happy enough as in theory may only need one possibly two services during our lease.

If it was my car I'd probably switch it to fixed but as it belongs to VWfinance that's up to them if they want 18.6k miles on the same oil!

I was under the impression that there are a number of external 'variable' influences on when the long-life 'service now' message appears?

 

Total number of miles

Total number of days

Number of engine cycles (stop/start)

Journey times

Periods of engine load (gear / RPM ratio)

Oil viscosity (sensor in the sump?)

If you are achieving the same mileage each time (close to 18K) then I assume your annual driving style remains consistent?

 

It has been reported on here that some members have got to over 20,000 miles (just below the maximum mileage cap) on a variable service, some as low as 12,000 miles.

That's how BMWs work.  I'm not sure if Skoda is that smart. 

There's nothing variable about it, its not even called 'variable' it's "long life" servicing.

In fact it's not termed 'long life', it's Flexible.
