Skoda Rapid Sport - Tyres

Featured Replies

I find the ride very crashy and bangy on the tyres from the factory - Continental Premium Contact 2's I think they are!

Has anyone improved the ride on their rapid sport? I also find that the local garages by me find it hard to get 215/40/17 tyres, they say it's a 'hard size' to find and so the price is increased because of this. Is this the only size to use or have other owners purchased something else?

Any suggestions/advice here would be great! Thanks! :)

Does your car have standard springs?

Same tyres on my Toledo SE - rides really nice. Both the Sport and this Toledo benefited from the suspension improvments post mid - late 2013.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Size/17-Inch-Tyres/215-40-17-Tyres.htm list 47 different 215/40R17 that have been reviewed by consumers.

There must be something there that will do the job and be available online.

next size up is 215/45R17 more popular but over 3% bigger diameter - so too big according to 1010tire amongst others.

205/45R17 are only 2% taller and appear to be offered by more manufacturers than the stock size.

The springs are whatever came from the factory yes, mine is 2014 model, purchased June 2014.

Just seems very crashy, go over the slightest bump and it seems to make a big fuss about it.

I'll have a look round, reason I am asking is because one of my tyres has a puncture, but the cars only done 8000 miles so seems a bit silly to change all 4 tyres just yet!

Would the other tyre sizes you mentioned make much difference?

I drove a '13 model on Dunlop 17's and the ride was poor - nearly as bad as my 2000 Proton wira.  My '14 on Conti 17's rides much better.

I did hear of one Rapid delivered with massively overpressure tyres and the ride was awful.

From the sound of the post, I think they had 3.8 bar in rather than 38psi.

Not a brilliant PDI.

I would check the pressures, and stick with the standard size.  Read the reviews from users and order the tyre you think best.

There are fans of the OEM Conti & Bridgestone here on Briskoda Rapid Forums, but very few reports about alternative brands (in 17s)

Try searching thge Rapid forums for Tyres and see whats been talked about over the last 2 - 3 years.

Thanks for your help! Pressures seem ok, will check them again later!

Just didn't want to spend £100+ on a tyre that is going to make the ride even worse!!

I will check the forum later for recommendations and go from there! :)

The rapid fitted the 215/40/17 only needs 32 in the fronts and 34 in the rears

I just had mine rotated (fronts are now on the rear), the car has just about done 24,000 miles and there is plenty left on the now rear wheels... good going in my book although they are noisy and not as grippy as I would have thought - these are far better than the falkens I had on my last car!

The Contis on my Sport were great [emoji4]

Never felt any crashing feeling. It's more like the high suspension [emoji57]
