Free Service Question

Featured Replies

Please could you offer your advice as regards the service i am going to have on the furbie at the end of the month.

The vrs is 12 months old and has only done 4500 miles, and when we took delivery of it there were a few slight scratches on the paintwork which rather than have sorted out (due to the fact i have never had a black cars paintwork repaired to my standard) i got 2 years worth of free servicing instead. When the car goes in would you tell them about the free service cert before the service if i am not asked, or wait until its done. The reason i ask is that i am worried that they might not do a full service or spend as much time looking after the car if they know that they are not going to get any money for their services.Your advice is welcomed with open arms, but not legs :P

Regards Tweeks.

I had the first years service FOC as part of the deal I had. Didn't say it was free just booked it in and they done the rest! Picked up the car and off I went.

So to answer your question it's upto you I guess as long as you have it in writing

Ask them what type of service the car will need BEFORE mentioning the free service certificate, that way they can't back out of doing what they have just stated to you as being the 'necessary service' without looking like they were trying to rip you off..Once they have stated what service is required then mention the certificate..

You are still being honest as you aren't waiting until they have actually done the service before mentioning the cert...(that will probably not do your dealer/customer relations any good in the future..)

Give them it come payment time - that way you know they'll do a proper job.

I'd definitely wait until AFTER the service to mention it, unless they mention it to you like then there's no point denying it.

Agree with let them know after if they mention payment. You'll want the full annual inspection service as its 12 months.

On another note. This reminds me of when I bought a mountain bike for riding to school on. It had quick release wheels and I asked for bolts. He said when they come in he would fit them free. Four weeks went on and they got the parts. When I got there he told me how much it would be and I argued that he said he would do it for nothing. He denied all knowledge. I left them to do the job and went back to collect. He brought the bike out to show me, Turned to the till area, and I calmly walked out the shop with my bike before he had a chance to charge me.

I always get things in writing now if I am offered something. Saves all the hassle.

i am sure though that yours wont be the same.
