1.8 Turbo engine in Fabia

Featured Replies

2.0 allready has the bigger gearbox and mountings as its a VAG engine (1.4 MPI is the Skoda lump). And block wise the 2.0 and 1.8 come from the same family or sorts. Also has rear discs, runs on petrol (as opposed to coverting a vRS for example). 2.0 also has the bigger driveshafts etc.

Does it also have the non FS-III brakes so the TT setup (et.al) can bolt straight on?

Tis OK, ETOS just answered me - AZL has same as PD130 ASZ engine, It really does sound like the ideal donor then.

Will make nice noises but not as tuneable as the 1.8T motor!

Really? I thought the thin V6 was a 3.2 turbochargeable lump - I'm sure I've seen a TT with a pair of them, both with twin turbos, developing something like 700bhp total. 350bhp seems more than anyone would want to try to put through the Fabia chassis anyways.

But the 2.0 is already plenty fast enough! Would be a very small gain for a lot of cost! ;)

Slower than a VRS though.

Still , for the amount it would cost to do the swap I'd buy a polo or ibiza if I had a dire need for a 1.8t small hatchback

*sigh*

I think our 1.8T cousins would be a much better bet than attempting a Furby transplant too.

If you hold out for a while you may get a new one. VW are going to produce a 150bhp GTI polo' date=' so it shouldn't be long before Skoda get the same overhall.

That has already been proposed for the new Fabia vRS IIRC.

So, I should buy and new gearbox from Ibiza Cupra too... should I?

If you want to tranplant a 1.8T then yes you will also need the gearbox and suitable driveshafts.

This is really hard work then

:iagree:

Try renewing the whole subframe, and rewiring the whole car too. ;)

1.8T drinks it a bit... enjoy trips to petrol station with the 45l tank in furby!

I will drive my economical 1.4 then :P :)

Cheers guys

The 3.2 30V V6 fitted to the TT and R32 is 240bhp std and Normally Aspirated, You can get Twin Turbo conversions for them, the one you've seen was probably one of these:

But the cost is big big bucks!!! The 1.8T is fairly cheap in comparrison, with a simple remap you can get over 200Bhp!!!

I agree with you on the 350bhp limit though! IMO I think it's crazy to put more than 250Bhp in a FF layout car! The wheels just have too much to do! Just look a Vauxhalls crazy Astra VX! Quick in a straight line but a wee bit scary in the bends :D

The Furby already struggles anyway with the PD lump up-front, just too much weight to plant it hard in corners, esp when remapped.

Those HPA upgrades look very nice, if you can afford them, looks like a professional place :)

but look at JBS's (and DaveUs) 400+ bhp octys ;)

Aye I know, BUT IMO that is too much for an FF Layout! Bet it goes OK in a straight line, when it can get traction, but I bet it's brown pants time in corners!

Only My opinion like, as never been out in Dave U's car, But Had a go in a friend of mines Vortech Supercharged Vento VR6, that would spin it's wheels in 3rd and try to snap your arms off with torque steer and it was only, Mmm Only, 270Bhp!!!

And both of them have quaiffe limited slip differentials dont they? So power getting down to tarmac should be improved.

That would help like, Think you can get a launch control system or summat too, Dubsport had one on it's ill fated Mid engined VR6 Mk1 Golf!!!

I fitted Racelogic launch control on a few of AmD's cars.

Thats the Fella! Are they any good???

Yeah they work well.

Essential on a VX220 with 300+ BHP..lol
