1.8 Turbo engine in Fabia

Featured Replies

Is it possible? And how much is it? I mean brand new 1.8T engine :D

im sure it would be possible, arent one of the tuning companies trying it? but as with anything you are going to seriously pay for it as any engine transplants are time consuming and require fabricated parts in many cases.

and then you have the task of finding and paying for a brand new 1.8T engine which i doubt will be cheap :)

i was reading in CAR magazine that you can buy an Enzo engine for just over 7 grand!!! how cool is that! :D

then all the other bits to get it to run :) doubt you would get much more than a bare engine at that price

It's possible.

There was a post on here a while back with a Czech Fabia 1.8T conversion.

I might be talking total bunkum here, but would it not be simpler to take a 2.0 Fabia and stick a turbo on it somewhere?

or squeeze a turbo on the 1.4

Due to the complex sensors & ECU controls, I think it would be far easier to do a complete engine swap.

Then you have all the sensors & ECU for that specific engine.

If you hold out for a while you may get a new one. VW are going to produce a 150bhp GTI polo, so it shouldn't be long before Skoda get the same overhall.

JBS specialise in 1.8T conversions. I think you'd be looking at over

Sure it's possible - anything is if you have the time and the money.

It would be a hell of a lot of hard work though especially when it comes down to the electronics side.

I'm having enough trouble fitting the WRX engine in the beetle.

I think there are some Golf GTI turbo kits out there for the likes of the 1.6 and 2.0 versions...as it's a pretty similar engine, it might be possible to do it this way...

I didn't think you could run as much boost with a bolt-on turbo as the N/A engine wasn't designed to need to handle such pressures? Might have got the wrong end of the stick on that though

Supercharger kits are available in the states for the VAG petrol engines for normal injection lumps

THERE ALREADY IS ONE! The Ibiza Cupra 1.8T!

was going to suggest that :)

That would be the ideal Fabia to do a 1.8T conversion on I would think. Least amount of parts needed.

I dont think there can be a vag model that hasn't had a 1.8t engine shoved in it yet.

They look very nice inside a mk1 golf!

But the 2.0 is already plenty fast enough! Would be a very small gain for a lot of cost! ;)

I reckon if you're going to bother at all you should stick that thinline VAG V6 in instead.

Will make nice noises but not as tuneable as the 1.8T motor! Can get them complete for between

Out of curiousity why would that be (with you being a techie and all)

Would the 1.4 be an equally suitable one, or does the 2.0 have something extra which might help. :)

I always imagine a good 1.8T conversion would be on an old W plate 1.4 MPI and just gut it and start again, modding everything.

2.0 allready has the bigger gearbox and mountings as its a VAG engine (1.4 MPI is the Skoda lump). And block wise the 2.0 and 1.8 come from the same family or sorts. Also has rear discs, runs on petrol (as opposed to coverting a vRS for example). 2.0 also has the bigger driveshafts etc.
