From 300bhp to 60bhp - Hello Citigo.

Featured Replies

I need to reduce my spending, so my trusty but very expensive to run Merc SLK350 has gone and been replaced with a Citigo.

Original plan was a nearly new base model, but my local dealer eventually came up with a good deal on a new elegance, to be picked up on Monday. I've had a loan SE for 5 weeks!

I was expecting a rather dreary, undepowered and poorly built car, but the loaner is surprisingly good!

Not much power, but with planning it keeps up with with most things. The 3 cyl engine is a lot smoother than I expected.

Welcome to the forum , not sure I could do it , that's why I cycle to work

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome! Don't worry about being surprised, there are a few Citigo owners on here that have been equally surprised by the little upstart.

Welcome! Out of interest, how much do you expect to save with this change?

The SLK was worth about the same as a new Citigo, so pretty much a swap. Depreciation on the Citigo will probably be £2000 more than the SLK over 5 years.

VED £485 to £0, around £100 on insurance.

7,500 miles a year at 50MPG rather than 24MPG

Servicing, Citigo £296 over 3 years, then £250 a year (SLK was due a £1,200 service in 6 months...)

Tyres - SLK around 11,000 miles a set (£600), plus odd repairs - £800 last year.

I'd expect to save around £7,500 or so over the next 5 years.

Damn, that's gotta hurt!

Welcome, nevertheless.

0-60 in 14 seconds, makes my Dacia look quick.

Not sure I could live without a turbo, too much gear changing.

3 cylinders is where is it at, much nicer sound when revved.

Well, its been 6 months. 3,000 miles.

Slow it is, but not stupidly so, Keeps up with traffic fine, just needs a good thrash to get over Hardknott and Wrynose but succeeds creditably well!

The car has been faultless. Not even had to top up the oil.

In short, far better car than I expected, better build quality and more fun.

All it needs is a 6 speed box:)

A belated welcome to the community. I went from 200 4x4 to a citigo and was happy with the cost implications mostly.

Less so that it's actually quite peppy around 40 to 50 so those 50mph are the pain, Hardknott, not done yet, done the highlands a few times, most of my lakes trips are in the north. Agree on the 6 speed, and bigger gaps in traffic , overtaking is somewhat eye opening at times.
