help choosing a tyre

Featured Replies

the time has come to replace the front tyres onot the vRS and I'm stuck between the Avon ZV5,Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39 (both £67.50 each) and the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 (£74 each)

I'm pretty sure I've got the Hankook on at the moment which are a good tyre however looking at there fuel rating it's an E and I do alot of motorway miles.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Stephen

I'm having Avon ZZ5's installed tomorrow, Ill post back on what I think.

The fuel rating is largely insignificant, the difference between ratings is absolutely tiny.

I've found the Kuhmo's were good when used on standard power, not so good with an uprated turbo etc.

I'm running the Kumhos all round and find them decent for the price, reasonable grip and fairly hard wearing which is often hard to find in a mid-range tyre.

Another similar alternative I think I'll be changing to are the Falken ZE914s, the only reason being is that I've had these on my previous car and thought they were a bit better all round.

Can't go wrong with either, you have to spend considerably more per corner to get better.

I have used the Kumho, the grip was excellent but the downside was they were worn out after 10/11k miles on the front - the ventus get good reviews and I dont think that the less efficient fuel rating makes any significant difference, some reviews have said that an A rated tyre can save you 80litres of fuel over the lifetime of the tyre - wow !

We ran the 914's on the Saab we used to own, they were pretty decent tyres but seemed to wear pretty quick (but we were running over 300hp also)

had the Avon's installed today (205/40/17) along with a fresh front alignment, car seems to handle well and drive good so far, much better than the 45 series ditch finders I just got rid of!
