Suspension Question

Featured Replies

Hi there, so I've posted in another post about Insurance problems with my vrs due to suspension upgrades, what I need to know is what costs would be Involved restoring it back to stock.

It has Audi TT Lower Arms

Castor Increase rear bush

28mm Rear AntiRoll bar

25mm Golf R32 Front AntiRoll bar

Weitec Coilovers

Would it just a case of taking the AntiRoll bars off and replacing the springs and shocks

Sorry im not into all this lowering stuff so I don't have much of a clue about it, need to bear in mind I don't have original springs or shocks , Im going get in touch with previous owner today to see if he still has them, to be honest the ride is a bit hard for me anyway on the roads down the south east, especially the amount of sleeping policeman the keep sticking in the roads.

Any Help Appreciated

Thanks

Not too sure but I will say that the rear anti roll bar won't need swapping as standard cars don't have one.

I've not explored prices of other stuff lately but I think standard springs are around 80 each, dampers are probably about 40, plenty of aftermarket options for standard there ranging from 30-50.

It's a tricky situation to be in and as they're suspension mods it seems even more harsh that LV dropped you. In theory upgraded suspension is actually safer in some ways, better handling and braking. You'll probably find that by the time you've added up all you need for those bits you may as well insure it modded.

What I would do is get on the phone, do it old school and ring around. Name someone on your policy and do everything you can to minimise risk to insurers. If you're still named on your partners policy that will also help. Don't give up, getting insured as is will be less hassle and probably cheaper than doing all the above.

It's probably the coilovers increasing risk the most, and as you don't like them could be worth a change back to standard which would meet the insurers part way.

Just been on to L.V, they have told me that as well as the suspension the problem are engine modifications, air filter and dumpvalve which are the other problems, was bothered about the exhaust though, hopefully they are going to send me driving record of proof I have on our lasses insurance with no claims which may help

So what have LV done the, are you incurring any fees? Are you completely free to go elsewhere?

Putting the engine back to standard is a lot easier. For a specialist I don't think a DV makes much difference. Is it a blow off dump valve? If so you don't want that anyway, chuck it in the bin and get an OEM recirculation valve with the diaphragm.

If you mean blow off by it chucks out air when I press the clutch yes it does, sorry not in to all this, I know what an airfilter is luckily lol

Yeah if it dumps to atmosphere. These run better with recirc like the oem or a forge 007 (as long as forge is serviced correctly and with the right spring!), which incidentally you'll still hear off gas with upgraded filter especially but wont be as loud. It is a learning curve but you're in the right place.

So with these weitec coil overs , going through the history of the car a kit was fitted and it is adjustable, is this an easy thing to adjust, as the front of the car is about the same height as the kerbs and if I try to bump onto them it catches the bottom of the front spoiler, also its very creaky at the front, is this because it is to low or is just a common thing with coil overs,

Iv got a full set of standard vrs suspension if you have no joy getting it from the previous owner.

I should be OK now thanks now I've managed to sort my Insurance out, just need to adjust the front which I'm not sure how to do, my mechanic said it would take a couple of hours to sort out is this correct, and that I need a special c spanner. Not sure Id be able to get a jack under it to do it myself either lol

U will most likely need a car spanner. Would take a hour max I'd say unless the adjuster is seized up. To jack it up you will have to drive on a plank of wood then you should have enough room to get a jack under.

C spanner*
