Horrible journey today

Featured Replies

Had to go to Leeds this afternoon to collect my daughter from school for the Easter holiday. The wind was horrendous; the big trucks were struggling, the M62 over the moors was closed to high sided vehicles and the Humber Bridge was closed to everything. The little Citigo was suffering badly in the cross winds; it was OK if the wind was from the front or the rear but when it came from the side it was somewhat uncomfortable. And then, as I was heading north on the M18 we went into a huge downpour. That then became snow! Only lasted for 5 or 6 minutes before we came out the other side but it was really bad.

On a brighter note, the Citigo did 153 miles at an average speed of 51mph and average consumption of 51mpg. How neat is that?

Weather was bad today, I drove home from Leeds to St Helens on the M62 and I have to agree the cross winds were very strong.

I drove to work in sunshine [emoji16]

And sunny all afternoon [emoji6]

I must admit Citigos don't like side winds.

Must say, I've found the Citigo to cope really well with inclement weather generally. Crosswinds don't seem to upset it much, the narrow tyres are great in heavy rain. Very good for a city car.

These were SERIOUS cross winds today, as in big trucks being pushed across lanes serious.

Yeah it's quite scary sometimes as the little Citigo is quite light and those side winds batter it [emoji15]

Mine seemed to be coping better that the Renault Laguna that managed to do an involuntary lane change in front of me today on an elevated stretch at 70. Still reckon it's very good as small cars go. Was pretty gusty out there today, saw a box van have quite a wobble too.

My short lived Rapid was terrible in the wind too. Must be the ridiculously high suspension that Skoda fit these days [emoji57]

I absolutely agree. It is the wind getting under the car and generating lift that makes it feel unstable. Lowering the suspension would clearly make it a much safer car.

Most similar cars are just as bad I suppose, my mk1 Yaris was much worse with side winds. Reminds me of a freak storm I hit in the Mii last Christmas during a drive up to Scotland, M74 near Abington services, sun then clouds then very quickly a huge temp drop followed by huge sleet and then snow and high winds, never seen anything quite like it, caused a couple of executive cars to spin out up ahead but the Mii carried on regardless, and I don't even have ESP on my bargain basement version
