Socket for oil change?

Featured Replies

I need to purchase a 32mm socket to open my filter housing with plastic cap.

Would a 12 point work, without risk of damage / rounding the nut of the cap.

Or is a 6 point recommended.

If anyone has used a 12 point without issue, please let me know as I can get one of these today.

Cheers guys.

12 point is what I used yesterday to do mine without issue. Suppose it all depends whether Shwarzenegger did your cap up last time. God knows why people do them up so tight,it even has the torque figure to use written on it.

Thanks for the input Silver

They look like impact sockets in the picture though? I thought they would all be six point, but I'm sure you would know the difference.

I ended up getting the Halfords 6 point impact professional, as it was only £2 more over the standard 12 point socket anyway. Can't see me using it for owt else tho.

All changed now - just to top up to max level and replace the under tray when I is sure of no oil seepage.

Glad I did it. Piece of cake.

My bad, one is 12 point but the other is 6 point...

Glad you got it sorted!
