Vrs brakes.....

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I'm currently travelling around Scotland, up and down mountain passes.

I feel the brakes on my Vrs could do with 'a but more bite'

What tends to be a good pad set up with standard size discs?

Or do others think their brakes are OK?

Cheers all..

I find my brakes suffer from fade quite easily a few high speed slow downs and they need to cool before they can bite again, i know a few other vrs members (who im sure will tell us what they use) will be along shortly, its a toss up to find one that bites when they are cold and doesn't fade too much when hot!

yellowstuff pads and ate blue racing fluid cure nearly all the fade (works well enough on track, so I doubt you would reach the limit on the road :) )

I travel Scotland all the time in a vRS and virtually never use the brakes due to how good the DSG is for decelerating.

Standard brakes do the job when the pads are OK and the brake fluid.

If you have bought a used car, have you looked at the pads to see how they are, and do you know they are standard.

You also need to check and see if the 'Brake Assist' is set as standard, because it is not unknown for some owners to reduce the brake assist.

farewell vrs brakes .

What sort of use where they getting to get that hot, on the road?

We do not really have them like that in Scotland.

Cairn o Mount, Dukes Pass, Bealach na Ba etc which even in summer will not cook the brakes when descending.

Cheers.. How do I go about checking brake assist...

Cheers..

You get someone with VAGCOM to check the settings.

But if you are back at the Dealers having the DSG checked get them to be sure that Steering Assist , Brake Assist and the XDS settings are at Factory settings.

??

Did you check if the DSG has had the Service Campaign Oil Change and ECU Update done?

Sure have, and Hells Glen, staying at Carrick Castle, Loch Goil..

.Sorry, missed pic i was adding of the Castle.   lovely place.

Great roads about, i go there when ever i get a chance for wee road trips.

Just perfect for the Twincharger, but you need to get Super Unleaded when you can.

I vent the tank, & I carry Cans, especially when crossing the Corran Ferry and heading for some of the best Asphalt in Scotland. (was used lots by Top Gear for filming.)

I have so many pics taken of roads & castles.

Ahhh i know these roads so well, ridden them loads on my motorbike, some great scenery and usually decent weather (even if it rains the roads are super sticky)

Why on earth would you want the steering assist set back to factory? It's stupidly light at that setting and I wish there was another option a bit heavier than vRS/GTi. XDS and brake assist are more down to personal preference but I've yet to find someone who prefers the factory steering weight over the GTi/vRS weight.

You want to know what it is at, do you not.?  well maybe some just take a car as the last owner left it.

and you might want it at different settings with different tyres.

Was your car new and you reset it,?

maybe the next owner  of your car or any used car will need to know where it is at Brakes & Steering Assist & XDS

setting is, if it is left on another setting.

Some cars are Motability Lease and get returned, go to Auction, then sold again, still set at More Assist / Disability setting,

so even lighter than what you are saying is too light.

ive never bothered to change any of them,  i turn the wheel it turns, i press the brake it stops simplez

I've just changed rotors and pads for OEM Pagid set. They are not fully run in, only circa 200miles, but cold bite is far superior to the standard factory ones. I have not tested the brake fade at heave braking as I am waiting for them to bed in fully.

For track days what Sharkrider wrote but generally a bigger brakes conversion is needed. Best is MK5 Golf R32 front brakes.

I've put on mk4 golf r32 brakes on mine, which are 334mm twin pots.... Now they are really good. I can't believe that nobody as done it before me, but the disc are very expensive to replace

I keep looking at brake options and I am very tempted with 312mm conversion as it is really cheap for the effect. If I was to spend money I'd have gone for brand new aftermarkets like 6-pot Tarox or sth from Wilwood.

the reason I dint go with 312mm because everybody does it and I wanted to be different oem+ with the tarox or wilwood I would have to run a spacer on the front which I can't with the airride when I air out the wheel would catch on the wings
