And?

Well I'm impressed with the mileage done on the original clutch & i thought this is supposed to a car forum where we talk about our cars ???

Did you only consider a LUK DMF?

Is there a SMF alternative or a Sachs planetary type DMF?

140k is a good mileage for a DMF, it should last you for your ownership now

Mine being a 1.6 is a solid flywheel & the reason i went for a luk is eurocar parts had them on offer £122 inc vat for 3 in one kit & i paid £39 for the other bits from tps where i work.

the factory fit luk & sachs as standard, the sachs kit was £189 & there is no difference in quality your just paying for the name.

Are you sure?. I though all the diesels used a DMF.

yes m8 I'm positive as i work for tps birmingham & all 1600 tdi models are solid flywheel, its only certain 1900 & 2ltr plus that have dmf fitted

It was a good mileage to get to out of a modern clutch anyway mate, I'm sure the smf vs dmf helped a bit and also probably the use you give it motorway vs urban

All depends on the driving you do, I had a Passat TDI a few years ago that had 215k on it still with the original clutch, exhaust, battery etc.

The Sachs is a different design of DMF using gears instead of springs to control the motion of the 2 parts of the flywheel

Id have thought Sachs being German theyd have a foot in the door with VAG

The biggest stitch up ever is making a flywheel a service part, and never leaving it untouched if only the clutch has gone, making it a £1000 job, total madness

my fwd cavalier clutch cost £50 to change and i did it without even splitting the engine from the gearbox thanks to some great thinking by GM in providing a bellhousing hatch via which the clutch could be removed and replaced by 1 man in a couple of hours

Some are now choosing to use torque limiting software instead of a DMF

To be honest I've only had 5 months & I've put approx 3k mostly city driving which was pain due the slipping in traffic,i new the clutch was needing changing & i needed to save a few quid to have it done properly, i drove it back from my m8s garage aprrox 30 miles to mine & it drove like a brand new car.

Plus my other train of thought for having the clutch done now is I'm going to the isle of white in july for the family holiday & i want to put a few miles on the new clutch before its fully loaded on a new clutch.

Good idea! We've just come back from an Easter holiday there and I had completely forgotten just how steep some of the hills there are! One of them in ventnor required a lot of revs and clutch slip to get away from a standstill! I must say it was much more pleasant and easy in a petrol to do those sort of junctions than my old diesel.

would mine be a solid flywheel then?

please say yes, ive had a DMF in a Tourneo AND a Mondeo......£££££££££££££££££££££££
