Buzz noise - right rear wheel

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

Fist of all I am sorry if I broke some forum rule by posting this topic, but english is not my native languange, so I could have missed something.

Well then, I have a problem...

I am driving Škoda Yeti 81kW 4x4 M6, with Ambition equipment. Yesterday I noticed some buzzing noise on my car.

That day I drived a rather quiet and slow (60km/h), out of town. So I do not think that my problem is caused by my driving.

The buzzing sound can be heard when I am outside standing next to the car. When I am inside of a car, and if I turn off everything (radio, clima, ...), and if I am somewhere where is quiet, I could hear that buzzing sound, but it is very silent. Normally when driving I do not hear it. I hear it when my car is stationed, and turned on.

So I parked my car, and left it running. As I could identify it I think that the buzzing sound is coming around the place of right rear wheel (passenger side).

I hear buzz sound only when the car is running. When I turn it off, there is nothing that could be heard.

I did not noticed any effect on the cars performance or handling. But I am beginner, so I could have missed something.

Also noticed, when I try to raise electric window (drivers or passengers) the buzzing sound gets a bit quieter for about 2 seconds, and then it continues as before (whether I stop or continue to rise the window).

I made two videos so you could have a bit more info.

Video #1 -

Car is parked and engine is running. You can hear buzz sound even before I lower my phone to the bottom of the car.

Video #2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ_a9VvN6ZM

Parked and engine is turned off. No buzz sound.

So far we have done 68065 km. Yeti has been always serviced in official Škoda service in my town.

I would like to figure out what is the problem before or if I need to go to the service.

Thanks in advance, and cheers!

Sounds like a normal diesel to me with perhaps a fuel pump noise YOU can hear.

Fuel pump.

But I could not hear it before, at least it wasn't that loud?

Is it something serious, or ...?

So long as it doesn't get significantly worse it shouldn't be a problem before it's service is due.

Without hearing it I can't comment further. However I can hear my fuel pump from inside the car if I try hard enough!

Thank you for your time to reply :D

Hi Nanek, welcome to the forum. This may sound like an offbeat suggestion but having lived in Europe and Eastern Europe, and having run diesel and petrol vehicles there I've occasionally had my diesels gum up after using winter fuel where the quality varied from garage to garage,I often received fuel without the winter additives,In the old days the locals used to add a few shots of parrafin [i think] but i wouldn't try that neccesarily with a modern diesel engine these days without consulting a mechanic..Some of the smaller filling stations don't spend a lot of money on ground tank maintainence. The fuel pump in my Citroen diesel often sounded like it was working very busily and loudly because the fuel was waxing up,I used to have the fuel system cleaned out by my local mechanic and often used to drop the cars fuel tank once a year and clean it out.Do you buy your diesel fuel always at the same place?

To me your pump sounds okay, but maybe you might want to compare the sound next time you see someone else with a Skoda diesel,remember...Skoda dont use a lot of sound proofing in their cars compared to others.Personally ,I would not worry too much ,unless you are noticing a significant loss of power.

Thank you all for looking into this topic, and for posting your thoughts.

I asked other Yeti owner about this, and he said to me to check does it buzz when unlocking the car/opening drivers door or when I make contact before motor ignition.

I will test it tomorrow first thing in the morning and post the results here.

I am sure that I didn't heard it before on my Yeti.

I also had Octavia MK3 for some time before Yeti, and as I recall, she did not make the buzzing sound.

Greetings

Could it be your fuel tank is nearly empty so the pump will be more audible.

Check the noise the next time you fill it up with diesel.

No buzzing noise when unlocking the car, or opening the driver doors. Also no buzzing when giving contact.

Hm possible. I don't remeber the last time the fuel tank was filled more than 25-30% of the tank. I often keep it about 3 lines above the red lines.

Filled it today almost full, and still the sound is there :(
