fog lights

Featured Replies

Hi.. using vcds can you programme the front fogs to come on as dlrs. My car us a 2007 elegance. If it can, anyone tell me how to do it. Cheers

Why?!? They're fog lights!

I doubt it, if you look at the fog lamp and see there's 2 bulbs (for example like the MK2 Fabia's fog light/DRL set up) then perhaps yes, but just the single bulb no, but I doubt that because of the model year, if you really wanted DRL's you could install some aftermarket ones, I'm sure there'll be a fitting guide somewhere on here

Mike, I know Brimma has set his front fogs as DRL's and reduced the brightness when in DRL mode on his 2008 pre-FL vRS.

Are you saying the only way you can do this is to set the car up in either Scandinavian or North American mode first and then swapping from dipped headlights to fog lights?

I'd go for NA mode but would rather the DRL's stayed on with the handbrake on.

I wonder if there is another way?

I use Scandinavian mode on a pre fl with the fogs at 50% instead of the xenons, have had this for around 70k miles now and the only bulb to go as yet was a front sidelight very recently.

Cheers guys, this is for my pre-FL (2008) Scout.

I'm not wanting the rears on so it looks like North American for me, then swapping to the front fogs.

I'll experiment with full brightness and 50%.

I pass a pre-FL vRS (same front fogs as the Scout) and he always has his dipped headlights and front fogs on, day or night. They are fine during the day when I pass him on a morning but when I pass him at night going the other way they are a little bright.

But by then mine will be off anyway.

Yeah, he has his fogs turned on manually, I flashed him a few times a few years ago but he took no notice, I still pass him most days all these years on!

I hear you with regard to Scandinavian versus North American. I really want as OEM as possible so would prefer no rear lights.

Because the pre-FL never had DRL's in the UK I don't want people passing me and seeing what they think are fog lights turned on, only to have their annoyance confirmed after they pass me, check their rear view mirror and see my tail lights on. In their mind I'll be as bad as Mr vRS I pass each morning!

The wife is pretty good with turning on dipped headlights when conditions warrant it so I'm less concerned about the modern DRL illness of driving in the rain / dusk with only front DRL's illuminated.

I successfully activated them tonight and wound them down to 60% brightness. I also found out that cornering fog lights was an option so turned them on too.

The only negative (in my eyes) is the green dipped headlight warning coming on with DRL's, I only see this as another misleading signal to the driver that dipped headlights are on, when they aren't. That and the link to the handbrake, a little strange.

All in all I'm pleased so thanks for the help chaps!

Yeah, a little strange!

There is a 1 second delay from releasing the handbrake to the DRL's (front fog lights) coming on, and the same delay when re-applying the handbrake.

I can live with it though, I'll soon get used to it.
