Urgent Question

Hi guys

I'm just fitting the FMIC, and oil has come out of the standard IC. Is this right?

Cheers

Mike (worried that is)

it sure is normal mate. I'd get your EGR backed off/blocked off be it physically or via VAGCOM to stop it filling the new one with ****e.

Yup perfectly fine.

Most of it comes through the engine breather.

Thanks alot guys!!!! just had me worried at first, but after thinking about it I kinda guess that it need oil to loub the turbo. Blonde moment! :o

looks like ur going to really annoy the pratts in bms around area now

The turbo does need oil to lubricate and cool the bearings but that part is sealed away from the exhaust and inlet turbines.

The oil in the inlet is because if you look ontop of your cam cover there is a breather pipe which vents crankcase pressure into the inlet. The oil collects in the intercooler pipe as its the lowest point.

EGR can glog up the inlet manifold but shouldnt have alot to do with the turbo inlet system as the inlet manifold is the last point before going into the engine and EGR is fed direct into the inlet manifold and then into the engine.

Oil came out of Xav's SMIC as well when we whipped it off. Think it surprised Xav a little bit - Thats when we both decided to don rubber gloves! STRETCCCCCHHH, SNAP! ;)

I'm sure that the EGR will have an effect on the sludge accumulated not only in the inlet manifold but the IC too. Not suggesting for one minute that oil will not accumulate in the IC without the EGR on...

Just a thought.

Which reminds me - must find a local VAGCOMMER to sort mine for me.

Denis - expect a call soon!

How?

EGR is fed in upstream of the turbo, I/C, pipe work everything bar the manifold itself. There is no throttle valve so inlet gasses dont back up.

Cheers Ross I learnt something new :D

Well the FMIC is kinda on..............I say that "kinda" because well, the slump guard wont fit with it lol.

Tried moving it to the side and even though the slump guard is on the wheel will catch it on full lock.

Open to any ideas

The plastic undertray? or did you buy a propper sump guard?

Mike, you may need to lift I/C up a bit. I'll take pictures tomorrow PM your e-mail.

Craig

Hi Craig, just posted about your pics in the Sump GB thread - lemme know what you think if you can ;)

propper sump guard :D

I've moved the FMIC up as high as I can straight away as I didn't want it to catch or be hit by anything. Still doesn' want to fit.

It's not the new pipe work that is catching but the older part that goes up to the back on the engine. I'm going to have another fiddle today and it I cant get it to work then I'll leave it off for abit as I really want to drive my fabia :D
