I am considering a 1.6 CR tdi, is there any major problems to look for and are they good for high mileage.

My 59 plate superb 1.9 tdi decided to start chucking its oil out of the head gasket, so replaced the engine, with a recon one, only to find the head gasket has gone again, so second recon will be going in.

Then it will be for sale, its just had a full taxi MOT at the end of Feb 108K 59 plate if anyone's interested 5K

I had two Mk2 Octavia Combi Elegance 1.6cr's, traded both in at around 80k. No issues on the 1st one and had the oil cooler changed at 70k on the second one due to an oil leak. Both were on variable servicing and I hardly used any top up oil between services.

EGR's appear to be an Achilles heel with the 1.6 tdi engine and are a bit of a bugger to repair, therefore making it an expensive fix. Have a look at this link.
