I suppose leading on from vrscari's Bye Bye topic... one leaves the Skoda fold and another joins ... :)

As indicated in the Introductions section, I purchased a 2004 Octavia Ambience 1.9 TDi Estate this Easter weekend, and after just a short time I am over the moon with it.

It has 120,000 miles on the clock, but is as new inside and out and replesent in metallic grey (silver ?). The car drives as it looks with no rattles or squeaks... It had a new clutch and dual mass flywheel assembly fitted just short of 100,000 miles, and new cambelt, water pump and alternator within the last 10,000 miles. Both engine and transmission are sweet as a nut, and no clunks from the very comfortable suspension.

The first job I need to have done is to have a towbar and lighting plug fitted in order to tow my 1 ton trailer, with which I may again in the future transport vintage machinery to county and agricultural shows. otherwise it is just a case of NOT filling the generous load area with junk, (which is a promise I make to myself everytime I change my car) ... :)

Nothing to ask you knowledgeable guys yet, but it is very reassuring to know that you are here.

Alan.

Welcome.  It's good to know that you're a happy owner.  As you mentioned, even though you don't have any issues to report it's always good to know that there's a lot of helpful people on here willing to pass on their knowledge.

Welcome fella, you're definitely in the right place, this forum has saved me a few pennies!

Hi Alan

Another similar here, though mine's 145k miles on an 03 plate.

Best car I've ever owned, and I've owned over 20 (counted them up recently).

I also tow a 1 ton trailer and as long as you take the effort to keep the noseweight up (less than 40kg and the back end wags. Mine is usually aroung 50-60kg) she tows a treat.

One gotcha I did find is the estate drops its slipstream about 2/3 back on my 2m bed trailer (so about 2.5m behind the car) and if you have a solid tailboard it costs about 5mpg. I'm working on a ramped tailgate using weldmesh and a slot-in plate for when I have a loose load like sand.

I'm up in Chorley near Preston but quite often get down to my folks' place on The Wirral.

Wherabouts in North Wales are you?

Regards, Mike

PS and +1 for this being a great community.

Hiya Alan, and welcome to the friendliest forum on t'net! :D

I hope your new Octy serves you well, and you don't always have to post up when you have a problem - we also like hearing about anything to do with OCty's on here - so don't be a stranger!

Enjoy the forum.
