4K tv.

Featured Replies

Not that I watch a great deal of TV or anything, but I've just bought a 4K tv for the bedroom. Why? I don't really know other than it keeps the wife quiet and therefore I get a better nights sleep. We had a 22" Samsung before, stood on a drawer unit (the one where I keep my socks etc.) and unless I was lying flat on my back and not breathing, she couldn't see it. So the new one has been wall mounted at the end of the bed, and is an LG 40" 4K one.

Just been trying out some 4K viewing this morning, and it's not a bad picture despite there not being a great deal available in 4K yet. Some Netflix stuff and also some Amazon Prime, both of which we have. So there's some benefit to be had I guess.

We went to Currys on Monday, and was assaulted by the daft salesman there who used all the tricks he could think of to try and sell us anything. Whichever one we looked at and asked random questions about, he told us it was a really good deal and an excellent tv. He annoyed me so much I said we'd have a walk round the shop and look at the tablets while we thought about it. I saw him leave the shop for his dinner break so went back and bought it off someone else. I didn't like to say that I'd already ordered it online through Quidco before we left the house, so all his sales pitch was a waste of time really. I finally got fed up of him when he literally shouted "Just buy it!". So Bobby from Darlington Currys store, consider yourself an idiot.

Also I was offered a wall mount for £60 (£36 with 40% off mind you) which I declined, and bought one from Amazon for £7 delivered.

So, anything worth watching on 4K?

In a word - no.

What TV did you get?? The LG I bought does a very good job at upscaling, I have heard some 4K TVs are a bit lacking in this regard.

Bought this one. 'twas on a special offer.

Link.

Wife's found some stuff on Netflix which is mildly uninteresting (better call Saul I think it was, and house of cards), but the picture is very good as far as my eyes can tell in the few minutes I get to watch it before I fall asleep.

I have the 49" B830V; I rate it very highly - even on upscaled old 1970s US TV. Strangely the picture is worse on some modern SD/HD recorded material, but after viewing the same programs on my 720p LCD upstairs, the same artefacts and image jaggling is also evident, so it must the channel over-compressing the transmission.

Dare I ask what you paid??

I mounted mine using a cantilever system I found on Amazon, it extends out by about 1/2 a metre and can be angle about 80* degrees either way (so we can watch from the front garden or from the dining table as well as the couch!!), it got 5 star reviews and only cost £20!!.

* 90 degrees with a smaller TV

£449 - we paid £650 for the 49" 830, which seems a bargain as there seems to be a £50-£100 premium between each step in the model range at each screen size.

Of course, we only went out intending to spend about £350 on a 40" TV.............

Paid the £449 on the link mate.

As for the mount, ours is just a flat to the wall mount. It's at the foot end of the bed and can't stick out much due to people walking past, and no need for angles left/right and up/down etc. Ours is VonHaus as well.

Seen this on Sunday when I went to PC world & I must admit I am tempted..

My issue with 4k is the lack of content out there... People seem to forget that what you see on screen in PC world in 4k isn't what you will see when your watching ITV or BBC etc.

That was my trepidation as well. Ultimately it boiled down to what was best suited to our needs, and anything else was a bonus. We'd been looking at 3D tv's and half pondering, but our daughter has mild epilepsy so we more or less dismissed that unless it was something which came with the TV we chose based on other factors, and it was the same with 4k. We bought that one simply because it was white which suited the room decor, it had Netflix etc., and the 4k was a bonus.

The picture is still excellent on HD, dare I say better than the Sony in the front room....
