Guy Martin Car Review

Featured Replies

Guess he had a ghost writer, but you can tell it's his thoughts. he keeps it real as they say :)

Better than the cobblers Clarkson writes in his reviews, as lady Elanore says, he keeps it real.

I still had the Aston Martin when it was time to take Sharon back to the airport, but we went in the Transit. The Aston isn’t that good."  :D

Good article although I have to say that I was a little disappointed to learn that he'd owned and Aston and was considering another, he doesn't come across as the type of guy who could afford that kind of thing - and I mean that in the nicest possible way in that he seems far too down to earth and normal!

I guess I had this image of him where he wasn't loaded and was working as a truck mechanic because he needed a job to find his racing antics - I guess all the racing success and recent TV work has its benefits!

Don't get me wrong, he thoroughly deserves it and the fact that he doesn't let it come across in his personality is to be very much commended, I just had this probably naive view of him!

Read his book and you'll understand what makes him tick!

There are a set of short programmes that you can probably find on Channel 4 about Gut that have obviously been filmed during in filming for the other programmes.  In those he talks about all manner of things but the one thing that comes through time and time again is his love of and pride in his job.  He rates his best achievement as having no MOT failures at Grimsby HGV Testing Station.  Note not any of his records that he has set throughout the series.

As Coops says read his book and for anyone who hasn't I can certainly recommend it.  He is a down to earth working bloke and what you see is what you get.  My wife used to work with his Sister last year and as a result she is a massive fan of Guy Martin and in fact it was her that wanted to read his book.  I have only met him once in our local pub and he is just a genuine working bloke who has had opportunity to do stuff in his life achieved great success and not let it go to his head.  He is not 'corporate' in any shape or form and the bit where he says he would rather use his Transit than the Aston is just how he is.  What you see is what you get and he is a refreshing change in this 'celebrity' led world that so many people seem to want according to tv bosses.

Can't see him doing I'm a celebrity get me out of here.

I just hope he can win the TT this year as he has a proven bike and I believe it will be his last chance before he moves on to other stuff.

Regards Chris

Been meaning to read his book but never got round to it yet.

Been a fan since watching Closer to the Edge in the cinema when it came out (had never heard of him before that) and watched most of his TV stuff since.

I agree that I can't see him doing I'm a celebrity but part of me would love to see that - I imagine he'd just get on with it, no fuss and really show the others up!

Just as likely to say "load of ****e" and walk off I think.

I think C4 have had it just about spot on with the programs they've done with him I just wish they were a bit longer tbh. I'd ahve been quite happy to watch him fiddle about with the guts of a spitfire for longer than 1 program.

They hinted at a follow up on the India program with him riding the Enfield back from India and I think that would work well. Similarly I think him having another crack at Pike's Peak or doing a land speed record at Bonneville. but I'd like a longer lead up with him building the things a bit more.

Guy is one of those people you could watch making a cup of tea / doing the oil on an Iveco and probably be entertained.

if they replaced top Gear with a 1 hour Guy Martin show, I'd be just as happy. He is very watchable and endlessly optimistic. I feel I've had a bit of a 'Power-up' after watching him.

Ok, I now have images of Guy sucking cows out of the hedges down Selby Straight in that thing!

What a great Guy he is honest to a core, watched all his series brilliant as above give him an hour long slot on a sunday. Like the way he puts in words what hes thinking cant wait for the north west and isle of manTt.

He's like Morgan Freeman, in that anything you read which is written by him - you can hear it in his voice.
