Spray Sealant

Featured Replies

Good advice there Jules

Yes Jules has clarified a procedure very eloquently for me Chris ... luckily apart from my Power Maxed items I have not yet made any other purchases, only reserve and collect at Halfords with no obligation.

So I may go down the sealant route rather than wax, using the Power Maxted TFR, Farecla clay mitt, then wash again and apply the sealant I ordered with the Mesto sprayer ... I like the fact that you can build layers of sealant, perhaps when washing weekly onto the rinsed surface while still wet for a week or three in order to enhance the finish and protection.... So more sealant to order from Wayne... :)

Alan.

You dont apply Power Maxed Sealant with the Mesto Alan...its for TFR and Snow Foam

Sealant application: Spray onto a microfibre applicator pad, leave for 5 minutes and then buff off...just like applying a wax

EDIT:

Apologies.....Youre right..it can be applied as a diluted drying aid:

Alternative Use

Dilution Ratio: 40:1 (25ml in 1 litre of water). Make sure car is fully clean, and allow to drip for a few minutes (No need to dry), spray the mixed solution all over the car, coating the paintwork, glass, alloys, rubbers, or plastics, then hose off, continue to fully dry your car.

Be careful not to get any on the windscreen...quite difficult I would imagine

I personally would layer it by hand, after the next wash rather than this method and buy some of their superb 'Quick Detailer' to use as a drying aid instead

I was referring to the "alternative" method on the instructions for the sealant on the Power Maxed site Chris, but perhaps the method you recommend gives better results... perhaps a non pressure sprayer for the alternative method below instead of the Mesto ?

Or would that alternative method be for a periodic "top up" after initial application with a cloth as you suggest ?

"How To Use

Use in a cool shaded area, Spray sealant onto a cotton pad or microfibre cloth and begin wiping it in evenly, using light pressure and overlapping strokes. Once on, leave the sealant to dry for roughly 5 minutes and then buff off using a clean microfibre cloth.

*Will be prolonged by using the alternative use method"

Regards ... Alan

I would yes

Periodic is fine, but not through the Mesto..that's for another process

Thanks again for your advice Chris ... no apologies neccesary, you must test so many products it is hard to keep track ... :)

Yes I wondered about the windscreen, this car must have had wax on the screen when valeted before I bought it,  as the first time it rained I was driving blind when I used the wipers.  I have given the screen a scrub with isopropyl alcohol then PowerMax screen cleaner.

Any advantage to wax on top of the sealant, or just use the "Quick Detailer" after washing as you suggest ?

Regards... Alan

You can add a wax on top, but when Powermaxed do such a good and VFM Quick Detailer.....there is no point

You will then have to strip back the wax if you want to add sealer again in the future

Again thank you Chris ... I now have my head around the procedure I will follow ... :)

I will leave you in peace and order the additional products I need from PowerMaxed ... I hope Wayne has you on a little commission... :)

Very best regards ... Alan.

Glad to help

I have a trade account ;)

I'm still yet to try any powermaxed products, Just not sure I can justify any more products, What you think Chris?

Can Chris not give you any samples?

Chris certainly can

Great products without paying silly money...What is to not like?

Thanks mate.

I now have a Farecla clay mitt, and the rest of my PowerMaxed products should be with me Monday or Tuesday, so as soon as there is a dry, dull day I will get to work on mine... Just one more quick question please Chris/Guys ... as I am going to finish/protect with sealant applied by hand rather than wax, what should I wash off with after claying as most shampoos contain wax, or will the small amount of wax the shampoo leaves on the surface not make any difference to the "bonding" of the sealant to the paint ?

Cheers ... Alan.

A good question Alan...often something that is missed..You need a product free paintwork for the sealant to bond to

It depends on your shampoo...But a good dousing with a strong mix of APC will be fine

OR

If you have it.... a wipe with Alcohol (IPA)

OR

Both...just to make sure

Thank you Chris ... APC ? ... I do have IPA

How about a shampoo for greasy hair that does not contain conditioner... :) :) :) ... or a washing up detergent with no additives ?... I am also thinking about the lubricant for the clay mitt.

Thanks again for your invaluable advice my friend... Alan.

Just use car shampoo for the clay lube

APC = All Purpose Cleaner...I get mine from Sainsburys...There all pretty much the same

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry all for being inactive, its been manic here at HQ, ive concentrated most of my time in developing our next lot of products which im close to signing off so will be going to production very soon!

Last weekend I gave my new car a full detail

Started off with a quick prewash (Jet Wash & Wax) applied via a mesto and then pressure washed off.

Then a quick shampoo

I then used development fallout remover, and tar and glue remover.

then another quick shampoo - dried thoroughly.

Polished with development polish

Waxed with development wax

finally sealed with #1 sealant used neat

I also did the wheels, took each of them off, cleaned them with our frequent use alloy wheel cleaner, and then waxed & sealed.

Came up a treat

Will get some decent shots up soon, took these on my tablet, and then they appeared on my phone, so took them off the phone but quality is rubbish

We have launched our gift pack last week, anyone seen it? Anyone like a £5 off discount code for one?

Thank you Chris ... APC ? ... I do have IPA

Washing up liquid like Fairy contains a lot of salt, I use a product called Filler killer to prep paintwork before sealing but there are a few specialised products which I think are a bit better than iPa

Daisy apc from Tesco is cheap and as good as anything

If I may add to your post Richf

1. I wouldn't worry about using Fairy liquid for a once a year use in the slightest...More than that..Yes..But why not just use a car shampoo if its for clay lubrication?

2. You have IPA...so that will be fine (Dilute 50%) to wipe down prior to sealing

I also use CarPro Eraser which is great to use after polishing to remove the oils

APC is 'All Purpose Cleaner'...There are many brands. I use Sainsburys APC...Far cheaper than any other Ive found and does the same job

I eventually used diluted TFR as lubricant for the Farecla clay mitt Chris ... (two birds with one stone) ... it actually lubricated very well, and I could feel the roughness through the mitt, which became very smooth after four or five light passes... rinsed the mitt and passed it lightly over the section again each time in case clogging had caused the smooth feel, ( which it had not ), .. A VERY light pressure is all the mitt needs to work really well... a rinse off with the Karcher and ready to apply sealant after drying as not buffing this time. ( two applications over two days as recommended by Powermaxed )

I have not washed the car for over two weeks as it now seems to be self cleaning ? ... particularly when it rains ... :) and I have driven over 300 miles since sealing... ( see my recent "Show Your Beads" topic entry.

Thanks again for ALL of your much appreciated advice Chris

Alan.

missed your post Rich ... sorry ... thank you also for advice...
