Has anyone any ideas please

I think it's fairly standard on older cars. Oil vapour works it's way through the system up to the egr valve.

It could be a sign of oil seal beginning to go on the turbo perhaps? Personally I would delete the egr by pulling the pipe off and blocking it to reduce the risk of runaway if it's turbo seal.

if it's coming from the two holes in the side of the housing then the tiny piston rod oil seal has had it's chips,    Do NOT try to block these holes up it will give allsorts of running trouble,    the other option apart from living with it and mopping up are a new one or a mod do a search for "wingnut egr stealth mod"     the said tiny seal cost pro'bly  25p  is almost impossible to replace
