humming noise after 60mph

Featured Replies

hi, just bought a skoda octavia 1.9tdi pd 2010..

on way home from trader, on motorway, had humming noise after 60mph got worse at 80mph, intermittent though. Also noticed gear lever is stiff in neutral, hard to move side to side, and sometimes hard to get into 3rd gear..any help would be much appreciated...ta

The humming / droning will be one of two things (on a manual, ruling out the DSG):

1) Worn tyres. Some Octavia's suffer what is often referred to as 'sawtoothing' on the rear tyres, mainly the vRS. Try adding it into the search bar.

2) Wheel bearings.

I would guess the stiffness of the gear lever will be related to the linkage, it might just need some lubrication?

Thankyou,

very much appreciated.

Will let you know how i get on.

If in doubt take back to trader to help sort your problem out?

I had a similar thing with my 1.9 tdi last year with it making a humming noise above 60mph. I changed the tyres and it completely sorted the problem.

Hope this helps.

Yes my humming noise is also back, never had it with the winter tyres on.

Thanks for all replies, so is my skoda 2010 a mk2? or mk3?

And will a 2007 retractable parcel shelf and spare wheel fit my year of skoda 2010 estate?

Much appreciated.

Ta

A 2010 Octavia is a MkII but the facelift version.

Pre-facelift MkII...

MkII Facelift (yours)...

And yes the parcel shelf and spare wheel will be the same on all MkII's, pre-FL and FL.
