Filled up with Tesco 99 in Carlisle.

Then up the M6, A74(M), A701 at Moffat, A72 and A701 to Edinburgh.

Stunning weather, clear twisting roads - superb drive, whatever the fuel!

I do it often in that area, less fuel used going back as it is downhill.

Going for a long blast tonight before the Snow arrives using 102 ron.

I know the a701, aka "the beef tub" well , used to commute in my mki fabia 1.9 tdi on that route twice daily for over a year. In fact I drove it like the clappers last Saturday on way back with my new fabia monte from Penrith to Edinburgh. Watch out though there are a least 2 sections with some serious pot holes there at the mo, Mainly between tweedsmuir and broughton. One especially I manged to dodge but looks like it could swallow a small wheel! The monte handels much better than my old fabia, even managed to catch up to and rinse a Passat cc! If u know the corners it a amazing route!

There is a pretty special route i usually drive before joining back onto the A701.

Up the A708 passed the Grey Mare's Tail & left at the AA Box,  and then back to the A701 with a brilliant downhill drive.

the bit of the road that Collapsed is across from where the Fabia is parked in my picture,

above the river.

Noticeable difference with 102ron fuel?

the road to moffat is awesome :)

I have run 102 (normal super in some places in Europe) on my way to the ring when I go , and you can tell the difference, the ngine, feels more alive :)

I wish they had 102 here. They do have 100, but I believe it has ethanol in it, which I'm wary of using.

It will love that extra Ethanol, fill her up and see how she goes.

Just checked - turns out it was discontinued in the last year or so due to lack of demand. :|

This was more about the sheer joy of driving on empty(ish) twisting roads free of lorries driving side by side for mile upon mile - BLISS!

Bring back the rare pleasure of driving a powerful car.

The 99 RON was an incidental which made no discernible difference - to me at least.

That is good where there is no discernible difference and it is costing no more, maybe even less than 97 ron from other retailers.

The difference can be noticeable over time and the longer life of consumables.

Plus a consistently efficiently running and performing engine.

Hi,I have a vrs cthe 2012 and I have always used 99 tesco fuel and car runs very fast and not a single problem in 11k miles can you explain what are the advantages of this fuel over lesser fuel and why say 99 fuel can make a difference to performance to less Ron fuel.(I just put petrol in it and drive I don't know much about cars) many thanks.

It is not just about more speed, it is efficiency of the engine design, and ability to get the best from the Fuels Octane/ Ron/ Mon

The Prescribed fuel by VW for the Twincharger is 98 ron (Super), and 95 ron Minimum.

Only Tesco Momentum 99 & Shell V-Power Nitro are 99 ron minimum at the pumps in the UK.

£2.50 a tank extra for Super Unleaded over 95 ron maybe, even without improved Fuel Consumption just running better, less emissions

& longer lasting Spark Plugs might be considered worth the cost of 2 litres of Unleaded.

Thanks for your reply

leobella,

when both these were made the Super Unleaded used were 98 ron minimum.

From technical point of view with higher RON number (we should be really looking at MON number, have a read up on it if you are curious :) ) the more advanced the ignition can be and car will produce more power from the same amount of fuel. If you advance the ignition the air-fuel mixture (charge) can start burning earlier and will burn more completely giving you more oomph.

We can only buy what they offer us, and that will be what ever RON / MON

Its interesting that Shell are very secretive on their fuels and they changed it in the recent years,

Greenergy the Producer & Tesco seem to be more open about their fuels & Tesco Momentum.
