I have a 2010 VRS Octavia and the chrome insert on the gear knob is flaking. Does anyone know if this can removed with the knob in situ as i've seen replacement inserts on ebay?

The insert is available as a separate part from the dealer, and apparently it just pries out - just be careful not to mark the leather.  It should be fairly obvious when you get the new insert.

Yes it just prises out, mine came out pretty easily. I sanded and sprayed it to match door trim.

That it prises out is good news.

Now has anyone had any experience with those silver mirror finish/chrome sprays from DIY stores?

I have used one in the past but it wouldn't take lacquer over the top. It reacted  to it so probably not suitable for this as the paint would wear quickly.

If you want to spruce it up a little more, you could buy a new insert with the vRS logo on it for 13 Euros:

I might get a replacement if they did an L&K version.

Had a look but couldn't see one. Couple of other L&K ones, some for the Yeti, but nothing else.

Got my replacement today, fitting was very easy, flat screwdriver on rear edge taking care not to mark the leather and it popped off.

How are your VRS inserts linked above wearing?
