Wheels alignment - cheapest MEASUREMENT method

Featured Replies

Inspired by Ehab's topic, I decided to ask for your opinion on a matter that I find useful for all of us.

We all know a computerized 3D wheels alignment doesn't come cheap ($25 in here!) so people rely very often on more empirical methods involving rulers, strings, rods, etc. It's not about those methods I would like to know your opinion, but my question is this:

What is the cheapest commercial wheel alignment device for DIYers that is closest in accuracy and ease of use to the real thing? The device should be able to measure and display angles / deviations.

For now the only information I have is limited to TRAKRITE and TRACKACE which can measure/display toe angles but both have a major flaw: you can't adjust and monitor in real time the toe angles with it.

Hard to get cheaper than a bit of string.

Looks like the red font was not big enough. Nevertheless I couldn't find any string capable to measure and display angles while adjusting the track rods length.

Oh well... I think I'll have to invent something myself. I feel inspired.

Only chance you've really got is buying some second hand kit then. I haven't found the drive over stuff to be accurate, but I can provably get within 2 degrees with my bit of string.

My brother has a device that is basically a n extending steel rod that lies on four legs. Its fairly good, but again, no numeric results.
