1.4tsi engines across the vag range

Featured Replies

I have seen the mk5 golf can be had with the 1.4 tsi engine. Does anyone know if these engines suffered with oil usage like the Fabia Vrs did.

Lastly is 110k a lot for these engines, obviously diesel handle the miles better but its been years since I had a petrol car.

Thanks

Not the same issues as a Euro 5 1.4 TSI as in some of the Mk2 Fabia vRS Twinchargers.

Maybe a whole set of their own issues like with Timing Chain & Tensioners.

Any car should have had that addressed by now. ie Fixed.

What power of 1.4 TSI are you looking at?

Thanks, I will have a read when the kids are in bed. I am looking at the 168bhp model.

My other half had a golf gt tsi 170 on an 06 plate

Didnt use any oil whatsoever

Had a few issues though

Injector seal leak at 45k

Rocker cover leak at 45k

2nd gear synchro at 40k

5th gear synchro at 60k

The gearbox in manual form is extremely weak, not a match for the engine power

If you can get an auto without a leaks then its a goer. Wouldn't recommend a manual

Its the 100k+ I am concerned with

Have you spoken to the seller,?

it might not be the Original Engine in now, or rebuilt.

You can check out any Warranty Work from its first 3 Years. Any work done since.

You can only go on each car as it is, more good than bad ones, just dont buy the Lemon.

Not as yet. I am doing my research so I know what to look for. Got a mk1 fab vrs with 68k so just concerned at getting a petrol car with 100k on it

I wouldn't be overly worried about the engine

Have a gander down the spark plug holes (you have to remove the coilpacks) and check for oil leaks as this is where they go.

For a new rocker cover gasket and injector seals my warranty paid out £500.

At 100k its more the gearbox you'll have to be wary of. You will need to give it a good test drive well up the rev range as pootling about changing gears wont show synchro wear.

2nd gear synchro is the main one that goes, (over eager gear changes 1st to 2nd)

But for some reason after my other half got the box rebuilt (warranty job £780) 25k miles later 5th gear synchro went initially.

Then you couldn't get it into 5th at all, then 6th gear synchro went for some reason. So at the end of its life you had to go 4th then neutral, then 6th (double clutching)

Lol was quite comical
