Hi all,

 

So on saturday I fitted the octy with new front discs and pads. The reason for doing this was due to severe brake judder when braking hard. Must of been cooked at some point. I ordered genuine brake from work through our SEAT branch as the part numbers were the same. One thing I noticed was there was a choice of 2 sets of front pads.

 

5K0698151 - These have a model code of PR-1LL

 

3C0698151C - These have a model code of PR-1ZB

 

Not sure why but I got both sets and just sent back the ones I didnt use. Upon replacing the pads I noticed the part number on my old pads were the 3C0698151C. Both sets of pads were identical but the only difference being that one set was Galfer and the other a make I cannot remember. Not sure why this is?

 

Anyway I got these at cost price through work at a total of £105. Overall the job was very easy and didnt take long at all including the brake bleed. Will be doing the rears this weekend or maybe the next.

I suspect the 3c0 is a 'performance' pad for the VRs. I remember from my Vectra B GSi ownership days that there was a GSi specific front pad.

 

If you haven't got access to a ramp be sure that the rear discs will take longer to do than the front. it's doable but **** me VAG make access/space to the rear caliper carrier bolts awkward.

Passat B6 = 3C

Golf MK6 = 5K

Can't imagine there is any difference but the parts are obvious shared around, hence you'll find stuff in your Octavia that has 1K part numbers on it too.

Yeh I did think it was you when I saw posts from you recently. I think our paths crossed once or twice at Billing but I think you were more pally with the mrs (Frenchy). My GSi was quite famous too LOL. One for being one of the 'press' facelift GSi's , this very one

 

 

 

 

and two for being dirty most of the time and often with a green hew around the window rubbers. 

Fair warning, the rears are an absolute pig compared to the fronts.

Access to get enough leverage on the M14 spline caliper carrier bolts is bloody awful.
