1.4 petrol engine,hesitation when acceleration

Featured Replies

I've started to notice there's a momentary deadspot of hesitation when putting the power down leaving junctions,I live very close to a fast moving dual carriageway which I have to pull out onto to get anywhere locally. When the power does come through its in one big surge. The rest of the time she runs as sweet as a nut, fuel economy is picking up as the miles go by and what little power there is from the plucky little 1.416v engine is delivered adequatly most of the time. But the hesitation issue pulling away in first has caused a couple of near hair raising incidents lately. Is this just a characteristic of this particular engine ? I'm running her on super unleaded.[FWIW]

The same happens to my 1.2tsi. The turbo cuts in at 1500rpm, anything under this the 1.2 has not got the grunt from a standing start. At busy road junctions I rev to 1500rpm then let up the clutch for a flying start

Mine doen't like revving, its still a bit tight from 30mph pootling by its 2 former lady owners, its starting to loosen bit by bit but i'm thinking the hesitancy is an ECU engine protection thing ie emissions controller stopping full power being made available.

The same thing happens when approaching roundabouts and changing to 2nd gear to take advantage of any gaps in the traffic. If the car is rolling and the throttle is opened for acceleration nothing happens - like a flat spot. Disconcerting. My engine has done 9000 miles
