iv got all the tools and can do that well i did it on my old escort, and yes i couldnt be botherd but looking at the car with its mot and everything i cant scrap it, it was never a car to keep it cost under £300 and was a run about but being in such good condition appart from the engine id like to keep it,

the diesel isnt my idea of a bigger one i just saw the car on a dog walk and the bloke was emptying it so just asked if it was for sale didnt know at the time was diesel it faild  the mot on body work and about 500 of welding needed so its a idea but i know alot to change over then the log book and everything to change,

id liked to of gone 1.6 as i feel the car is underpowered being a 1.3 and used alot on the motorway

I agree but I wouldn't go for an AEE engine, it is not the engine VW feels proud of, it was just what they felt benefits them the most as a first engine for Skoda. You can get full advice from people that swapped their stock 1.3 engine.

ok i will look into it, just a question as i dont know skoda engines well how easily should the engine turn by hand with all plugs in ? i can turn it with a small wratchet no esxention bar there is no resistance not sure but is that a bad thing

iv worked on alot of cars and always when turning by hand it goes so far then really difficalt to turn?

i thought id ask as you seem to know alot about these cars

You can jack up the front right side, engage 5th gear and spin the wheel by hand easily. I do this all the time when setting the valve gaps. Alternatively, if you need to take off the right wheel, you could use a socket wrench with long extension on the nut of the crankshaft.

yeah i did it with the socket i expected more resistance while turning like on other engines but there was nothing was easy to turn all the way around

If you plan to rebuild the engine, consider taking us on board if you have a friend that could document the process while you are using the spanners.
