Handbrake adjustment - removing ashtray ?

Featured Replies

Hi All, I am having difficulty removing the rear ashtray to gain access to the adjustment nut for the handbrake cable, there is 2 clips at the top and iv'e tried prizing them ! Anybody know how to remove it ? I presume I am looking in the correct area as the handbrake is coming up about 5 clicks. Cheers - Stuart

Mine just pulls out straight up, no tools required.

More force needed. Wedge a screw driver at the back and pry up, of even better use the plastic pry tools to avoid damage.

Give it a good pull!

Five clicks- HAVE you checked rear shoes ? Might be better to eliminate other causes before cable adjustment .

Hi all, thanks for the replys, yes after removing the ashtray the surround is just prized up with a flat blade underneath the hinge side of the cup holder ! I was looking at 2 clips at the top trying to release them, Doh !, and when the cup holder is removed there's the 10mm nut for adjusting the handbrake, if you put the car up in the air on axle stands at the rear you can check the brakes don't bind after adjusting ! Cheers - Stuart
