This afternoon I had been making phone calls locally for cambelt change prices. Local Skoda dealer quoted £529 all in, including water pump.

My favourite independent (not always cheap, but cheaper than the dealer) was £415 all in.

Then I called my local VW dealer, who much to my surprise are running an offer of £349 for the whole lot and I know it will be genuine parts.

Felt I needed to share my joy at what is often a painfully expensive moment in the service schedule!

Our independent VW specialist does it all for £299.

But for £50 more if happily pay that to get the main VW dealer to do it.

I though VW was supposed to be the more expensive brand!

Did all the non-Skoda dealer prices include a new water pump (always recommended!)? If not then that could make up some of the difference.

The £299 I was quoted included a pump, but I'm not 100% certain it was genuine parts throughout (but I think it was).

I got the local Seat dealer to do mine a while back, They were cheaper than vw or skoda for some reason. I did ask for the old belt back and still have it in the garage somewhere.

Yes, all included the water pump. The VW price without it was £299.

Another question, I understand that there are cam belts on their own, and there are also cam belt kits which include various tension rollers because the bearings can wear and/or the material of the rollers can deteriorate and they can disintegrate (hope I'm correct on the latter point) - so do you know for which you were quoted?

Everything included. Vw did quote a similar price to Skoda as their usual price, but current offer was significantly less.

The Skoda dealer was way out on price.

 

They have a fixed price policy for £359 for the cambelt or £459 for the belt and pump...

That VW deal has been on for some time now, it was covered on another thread before Christmas, long may it continue!

Skoda Wolverhampton price matched the VW price when I mentioned it to them for the Cambelt kit and waterpump @ £350. So worth asking the question or just take it to VW who offered to do it too.

I had my cambelt done on my PD vrs 8 weeks ago at sandicliffe Skoda Leicester... £459-all in...

I could have it done just last October for £350 at vw listers nuneaton, but I didn't have the poundnotes to have it done...

One thing I would like to point out, is...

Vw warranty is 20k miles or 2years, Skoda is 2 years unlimited mileage.

Interesting -- my 54 plate is due a cam belt this summer.

So do I get my trusty independent in Preston to do it, or do I let Des Winks in Scarborough do it? Des Winks is the new Skoda agent in North Yorks, but is also a long standing VW dealer. I wonder what price they charge? VW or Skoda? Or do they quote one fee or a VW, and another for a Skoda? Same garage, same engine, possibly two different prices. Will investigate tomorrow.

Mike worth playing Skoda off against VW. Especially with the warranty thing meaning Skoda being the best all round.

If they have matched for a couple of us the VW price, I am sure a dealer will for you.
