cd/dvd drive - help needed

Featured Replies

I have a TOSHIBA notebook and running windows XP. Lately my dvd/cd-r drive (mat****a UJDA730) does not read my cds both audio and data. When put in a CD in the drive and click on the drive I get a no disk in the drive respond. Before the problem satrted the drive would auto-run as soon as a cd is placed in the drive.

why would this happen?

a new drive  - nah - ill have to go and spend yet more wonga then!

I'm inclined to agree since that's the error message I kept getting on mine. Replaced the drive and A-OK now. It was older than yours, but not overly used. All the wisdom I could find said that yes, it was the drive, and that they don't actually last as long as you'd think. There was a thread on here recently (a month ago?) about which new one to buy.

New drive. I went through 3 drives in 3 years in my old Compaq Evo n160 and it wasn't overworked either. Seems to be a bit of an issue with laptops. You can buy bare drives for from around
