Ds2500s Squeaky, Any Ideas?

Anyone at the National meet might remember by brakes were becoming a bit noisy!

Since then I've put plenty of copper grease on the backs of the pads and all the mounting surfaces etc which has got rid of most of the squeaks.

Thing is they still make a whistling noise with light pedal pressure at low speeds (not when cold or really hot)

will this disappear with use, any ideas?

I think mine, and Alex's, have also been squeaking since the weekend. The noise from mine has pretty much disappeared now - I suspect some Welsh foreign bodies may have worked their way into the brakes. :D

I don't think you or me need to worry long term, although I thought it sounded like a warped disc due to it being a cyclical squeaking, subject to speed, which stopped when braking.

Firstly is great to see that the pads are providing great braking performance.

At a rough guess based on your low speed comment, it may be that the pads are not quite fully deglazed, although as you hopefully got them fitted pre-National Day thats a bit of a surprise as you probably did a fair few miles.

However it can sometimes take a good 500 miles or so to bed in pads fully, especially the likes of the DS2500 which dont heat up as quickly.

If you've already done 500ml then I'd suggest a few severe braking tests to help make sure the pads are deglazed fully.

Other things to check after the above, would include the pad spring clips, if these are loose then they can sometimes vibrate and whistle/squeal.

Ooops I should add.......

Only do the severe braking tests when traffic and road conditions are suitable, dont want any HGV's flying into your rear bumper :)

ds2500 need a fairly "harsh" bedding pocedure it may be that you have been too gentle on them and you have actually caused a small issue (just based on your post, apologies if that's not the case!!).........mail me and i'll sort some specific instructions to try and cure your problem........

How harsh should one be while bedding in the 2500's then?

From a previous posting I thought you were supposed to drive as normal for a coupoe of hundred miles and then do a few high speed stops (what sort of speed?) being progressively harder on the brakes on successive braking.

A general bedding of ds2500 pads would be good for all.

Have been gentle with them to start with, then started abusing them a bit more (while trying not to headbutt the windscreen)

Whistling seems to be reducing with miles but i will go out at the weekend and give them a really hard time! :drive1:

All the clips seemed okay and theres loads of copper grease on the backs etc so hopefully the noises willl fade.

We sometimes find with the higher performance Audi's(TT,S3,RS's etc) that slow speed squeal can be an issue - esp with new pads -- we usually remove the pad - scuff the braking surface with emery and run a small chamfer along the edges -- then refit with usuall anti-squeal clobber -- does the trick :thumbup:

There was an Audi of America Service Bulletin explaining what to do, but the link to it disappeared off the site hosting it a while back. I must run off hard copies in future when I find useful info like that.
