A/C not working

Featured Replies

Mentioned couple of days ago that the ac would not go less than the ambient tempeture but heating side of it no problem. Today took it to my dealer Birchwood Eastbourne where it was discovered the condensor has leaked.Apparently these have been known to corrode and now been replaced. Thought I was in for big bill but the service guy put himself out to ring Skoda and have got got it FOC, the dealer paid the balance. So well Done Birchwood Eastbourne.

Just mentioned this in another thread:

Very very strongly recommend some fine mesh behind the lower grille, stops stones and such putting holes in the condenser. ;) ;)

I took up your recommendation last weekend after buying the plastic mesh shown in a link.

The bottom part of the condenser was well and truly dented but A/C working fine. I found a couple of bits of dense concrete below the condenser that obviously come through the grill.

Looking at the number of fins that had been bent flat it is no surprise to me that debris coming through the lower grill can cause a condenser leak.

Hi there guys, pastiche I think that you are very fortunate to have been treated so by your dealer. I have an aircon problem with it not cooling. In February of this year, left car with my local dealership for an aircon service / recharge, which they duly carried out, and charged for. This was done in preparation for one of those blisteringly hot springs that we get! Don't want to be caught out by an early summer. Anyway when the blistering temperature did arrive, the cooling didn't materialise. It had been two months and the car had travelled 500 miles since the work was done. Took the car back to Winchester Motor Co. Ltd and they diagnosed the problem as "leaking air con condensor" - with a new unit required at a cost of £521.--. Now the cynic in me is screeming - I bet all they did was to regas the system without bothering to check for leaks - and as far as the paperwork goes - just ticked all the boxes as checked. So unless your motor is under some kind of skoda warranty - I think you've been very fortunate - and good luck to you. Haven't had the aircon repaired yet, I'm considering replacing the condensor panel myself - or should I be making a complaint to my dealer over suspected faulty practice - or is there a known problem with Showa condensor panels?
