Faulty reversing sensor?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Think I've got a faulty reversing sensor. Its done it before a few months ago, but sorted itself.

When i select reverse it just goes onto a constant beep.

Only thing is, theyre dealer fit sensors and not factory. Asked the girl at the dealers if theyre covered by warranty and she says they are, but I didnt think they were? I thought it was only 1 year (maybe push it to 2 under EU law, but the cars nearly 26 months old now anyway)

Just dont want them fixing it and landing me a bill? Haha.

They cant book it in for 3 weeks anyway, so it might of even cured itself again by then?

PITA.

2013 fabia SE by the way.

Cheers.

Just get it in writing on the booking in sheet that it's a warranty job. I always do that regardless if it's blatantly obvious or not.

Thats a good idea!

How do i get a booking in sheet? Will they post that out? I've booked it in over the phone.

Doin my head in already. Quite off putting haha.

Just hope it keeps being dodgey n doesnt fix itself again.

Haha. I normally have to sign something saying that the work on the sheet is correct for that visit, then I ask them to photocopy it for me, it's a bit pedantic but it has served me well in the past and the fact it's AC dealership I won't take chances lol.

As long as it says warranty job/item you will be covered.

Cheers.

I might pop in early and see what they say. Im sure i can steal someone for 10 mins.

Sensors doin my head in already. Personal injury claim yes please. Ahaha

Mine does this sometimes as well. Usually in the winter when full of muck or when just washed. Be sure to clean the sensors very carefully and maybe blow some air into them with an inflator. Might just cure themselves  :strong:

Wonder if thats what it is? I did jetwash it the night before.

Its fixed itself again today! Does my head in abit. Rather it just went wrong properly than i can have it fixed lol.

I have got a compressor, what do you do, just blast around the sensor?

Cheers for your help (:

Might just be. Mine are Cobra aftermarket sensors installed by the dealer, they seem somewhat sensitive to dirt etc.

Yep, blow some air around them to clear anything trapped and wipe with a cloth.

Im not sure what mine are, or who exactly fitted them, somebody the dealer got in.

8 bar of compressed air should sort it, if not take the paint off haha.

Any Skoda genuine accessories fitted by the dealer at the pre delivery inspection should be warranted for as long as the car - 2 years unlimited mileage or 3 years/60,000 miles.

If you select reverse gear and place a stethoscope on the sensor, you'll be able to hear them working.

Ah really?

Thats good then! Just with it being fitted by a guy that comes in and not the dealer themselves, i wasnt sure if id manage the third year.

Also. I've got rusty coloured marks around 2 of the sensors, I've polished them out before but they keep coming back. Reckon thats something they should look into under warranty?

Rusty round the sensors sounds like maybe the connectors on back may be rusting and it's migrating with water outside of the car, Although as mentioned you cann hear them working if your put the car into reverse with only the ignition on, sounds like a clicking noise, depending.on.your hearing you should be able to hear them by simply putting your ear next to them :p

I'll give this a listen tomorrow (:

I have tried to creep up on them and listen for the beeps. The 2 outside ones are easy, but the 2 middle ones require abit more stealth haha

So as i was parallel parking in a small space in town just it decided to make it easier by being on a constant beep all the time.

Yet when i get home and reverse onto the drive to listen for the clicking, it works again.

I can hear the clicking though thanks. Theyre all doing it at the monent, just need to catch it when its failing again

Bloody thing lol.
