I realise this has been done on the manual gearstick, though the chrome insert on my DSG gearstick has begun to flake and I would like to replace it with something like the picture below as it appears the OEM part only comes as a complete gearstick with gaitor.

 

Has anybody else replaced the insert and been happy with the fit/finish of the replacement?

Yep, Ive done this on the father-in-law's superb. Fits perfect and a nice easy fit. My top would be put it into "S" and remove the insert from the front where it cant be seen if you damage the gearknob!
Use trim tools if you have them, if not do what i did and use one of those hard rubber ended scrapers for halogen hobs

Thanks rob, that's a good tip, I was concerned about the stick getting damaged.

did mine today very easy , i used a cutlery knife , not exactly the safest lol but did the job okay , new insert looks great

I did mine today too - haven't taken a photo yet though I'm pleased with the superskoda part, it has a genuine feel to it.
