Fabia monte daytime lights not working?

Featured Replies

Ok had my 13 p monte for 4 weeks now, one previous owner. I have never got the daytime running lights to go on. I'm at the skoda dealer right now (for gear knob warranty work) dealer says it could b at point of purchase previous owner may have asked for these to b disabled from the computer. Is this possible? He is suggesting I can get it reprogram for light to b on, by them But at a cost. Any alternatives? Possible issue that cause these to b off? Cheers

I do not know about Montes,

But do they have a simple  on / off switch beside the Fuses like Earlier vRS have for putting the DRL's off from being on with a automatic

start up ?

as said it may well just be a switch by the fuses but youve had the car a few weeks and the robbing stealer wants to charge you for something that should be on by default??

what an absolute plonker that dealer is, its a safety feature thats not working as designed, fix it end of

Monte 13 plate will have a rocker switch behind the fuse cover by your right knee. Mine does.

To b fair to the skoda dealer, I bought the car from a private dealer many miles away. The skoda dealer says it he checked on their computer and this function was deleted at the point of purchase, so will have to be entered back in; cost is £45 on its own! Forgive my ignorance but where is the fuse box located?

Sorry just read it's by driver right knee. Cheers to all who have replied. Ewen

By your right knee under the dash there should be a panel you can pull out and as said above should be a rocker switch to turn them on and off

Well u guys just saved me £45. The dealer and his mechanic who (apparently) looked at the car and confirmed the ProgrM had been deleted speak rubbish! Dedicated button to turn of/ on next to fuses. I don't mind a dealer not knowing all about ever model but trying to charge me £45 for doing something that wouldn't turn the light on and isn't the problem is just bad customer service!! Glad I didn't take them up on their offer!

These people do this as a living, maybe 5 1/2 - 6 days a week.

Can you imagine how much a year comes in from misdirecting customers?

In deed, for info it's the west end skodha dealer in sight hill, Edinburgh. They did wash the car today when fixing the loose gear knob (under warranty) tho! Incidentally last night Mrs Creosote managed to badly kerb the rear left black alloy, about 50% all the way round the rim, paint removed gouged the alloy car was immaculate prior to this, well done Mrs C!. Nice silver contrasting against black paint. West end dealer quoted me £109 for referb today (or a bargain 129 if I got them to "fix"my day time running light issue). I know dealer will b at top end of cost scale for referb; but what can I expect to pay for a referb on these black 17" alloys that come on montes? Cheers

At a good independant wheel specialist I paid £75 per wheel for full refurb and colour change on 18" wheels. Sadly its nowhere near you i'm afraid.

If you do not have touch up paint & Mrs Creosote does not have Black Nail Varnish.

2 for £4 in Tescos.

I would not rush to refurb the wheels unless the driving is improving any time soon.

Someone from the Skoda Dealership in Sighthill might be reading this over the weekend.

They can maybe try on here big upping the staff & customer services again.

My 63 plate monte doesn't have the switch in the fuse box for the drl's ?

The manual just refers to remove the fuse to switch them off ?

Ridiculous. Dealer should of atleast checked that. Shooting themselves in the foot there. A simple 'oh let me look for a switch sir' and flicking the switch FOC would of seen you drive away happy and perhaps go back for chargeable work in the future, servicing etc.

Too much greed, less in the long term

Albeit the later 14 fabias haven't got the switch i dont think? I remember reading on here anyway.

14 plate ones have no switch, it's more to do with the fact that as the DRL are there they should be in use, not law on the Fabia 2 but think it will be on the 3.

Not Law on the All New 3rd Generation Skoda Fabia.

Reason,

Because Skoda never Type Approved it since 2011. Its a Facelift when they want it to be.

That's what I wasn't sure of George, wether it was a face lift or redesign.

To be fair to the dealer; confusion about which year model monte does and does don't have the button for day times could b why he drew the conclusion about needing re programmed. Dealer was helpful and polite so could have been a genuine mistake, although one that nearly cost me £45! As its my 1st time dealing with them, and don't want to seem too harsh, I would give them the benefit of doubt this time. It's was a Friday afternoon after all!

It is fair to be fair to them.

But as i think others will confirm,

they might put their cars in for servicing or Warranty work and when they leave notice sometime later the DRL's are not working.

Reason being the Technician Disables them. (switches them off when working on the car.)

* A Dealership Technician , Fitter or someone does PDI's on New cars, & Warranty Work on cars and should

know about Fabia & the DRL's,  it is not as though West End Skoda have not had enough Monte Carlos

through their place.*

Did your car require any Service Campaign Field Actions, on Wiring Loom, Plug Leads or Heated Seat Element.?

Be sure to check with them.

? What was wrong with the Gear Stick that it was in for Warranty Work.?

EDIT.

Sorry i see it was the Gear Knob.

But its a 2 second job to pull off the cover and check if theres a switch (theres just a hole in the plastic on the models without a switch)

If there isnt.. Itll cost £45.

Maybe lack product knowledge than trying to rip you off, who knows.

Not sure about the service campaign ( I did ask for info) but the same dealer said there r things they don't have to disclose about the card (or any car) pervious warranty history prior to me owing it. Which I find strange??

Field actions & room wire looms I have no idea about, heated seat elements (def no as my car does have h seats).

I did ask pressure them about timing chain potential issue some weeks ago, but they reassured me it was only present in earlier models, after initially saying they would not be at liberty to say even it had been dealt with by the previous owner; which I found an unhelpful attitude to adopt!

Re the gear knob; if pulled up lightly it would seperate internally from the stick and rotate semi freely. Once it was pressed down it worked ok. But one time this happened I, momentarily, could only go into reverse until I pulled it up again; this at a set of traffic lights which wasn't helpful to the line of car behind me! As Mrs creosote is a new driver I felt prudent to get fix under warranty. I Could have lived with it but best sorted now.

That was a lie by whoever on Disclosure.

If asked they do need to tell you.

So now you can ask Skoda UK Customer Services to forward to you the Service & Warranty History,

and please be sure to tell them what West End Skoda Sighthill Edinburgh told you,

because you are not the first that has been told this.

Enjoy the car now,

and maybe use a Workshop with Competent Technicians in the Future.

Forgot to add the apparent issue with stick was that a retaining clip had broke and also the housing for the leather shroud had snapped (unknown to me), both ordered as replacement parts and fitted this afternoon under warranty.

George; yes that was my understanding too. I basically told the dealer it would b in their own intrest to tell my about thE chain if it was dealt with prior to my purchasing the car; as I would only keep pestering them every time I thought there mite b an issue!
