power loss issue octy1 110tdi

Featured Replies

Hi need urgent help, had a few issues but this is making me regret buying it, I'm getting intermittent power loss problems put my foot down and turbo will kick in , but happening more often that it will not kick in and it struggles to boost or go above 50 mph going away in a week so really need to solve the issue

You need to get it read for any codes, it does sound like the turbo vane (VNT) mechanism sticking, causing an over boost and the ECU shutting down the turbo.  Fixes range from cleaning the VNT with oven cleaner to full strip down & clean or replacing the exhaust manifold complete with turbo.

A search on the forum will reveal the symptoms and fixes more in depth.

Same thing happened to mine a few weeks after buying it. The sticky vanes cause the turbo to overboost so the ECU puts the engine into "limp home" mode to stop the overboost causing damage. You will find it difficult get over 3000 rpm. Stopping the car followed by turning the ignition off then on will reset everything until the next time you ask for too much power.

Typically it will be when you are going up hill or asking for more performance. In my case I first found the problem a few hundred yards from home when accelerating down an on-ramp to join a dual carriageway.

I had my turbo taken off and sent away to be mechanically cleaned but there are professional chemical and DIY fixes too - some in situ. Better to search on Google with Briskoda as the first search term as the in-built search on this site is not as good.

Also look on You Tube as there are many videos on this topic.
