comparison of VAG cars to new hyundai 2015 i20

Featured Replies

It's still how many people purchase a car. Rent or buy its a technicality and pointless argument. Most people borrow to buy cars. Loans etc amount to almost same as when loan is paid most change car and start again. That bit is down to individual and not relevant.

Even if you buy outright, both same price and one is worth 3k more at end.

  • Nor me.  As far as I'm concerned manual gearboxes belong with choke knobs and starting handles.  The VAG DSG is one of the world's best gearboxes and no manual competitor will ever get a look in with

Totally relevant were someone is wanting the car for maybe 5 years even more, then pass on within their circle or sell. That is residuals like spend your money and buy and how much will that dealer take it back for if it was cash. All the other stuff is the financial market and turning over the product the manufacturers build and returns on their finance. It's allowed VWG to get away with 3 year warranties and poor qutility and the shine is off the premium brand at 5 years now.

I accept it my point won't be relevant to those people. Millions use PCP so it is relevant to some if not yourself

The thread was about comparison of cars and that is usually build, reliability, value for money, residuals and how a car will be not only new buy used, and bought out of warranty. Millions buy used. Every leased car becomes a lot used one when handed back. Millions of those in dealerships.

My point still stands. I never once said the issue I raised covered every buyer and every angle. I merely pointed out something relevant to many. Many not so but many so

to PCP or not comes down to how long you want to keep the car

3 years or under PCP is likely the way to go as you are only financing the depreciation

3-4 years no obvious choice

4+ years loan / finance

then you have to look at the residuals and finance / PCP rates etc

WE went from a 2004 Fabia vRS (104k) to a 58 plate C'eed (32k) last year and have just changed back in to a 2010 Fabia (75k).

I was initially quite impressed with the C'eed but after a while it started to grate. The interior was more rattly than our olde Fabia. It didn't feel as well screwed together. It went back to the dealers for quite a few niggely faults and it took quite a lot of effort to get the dealer to actually do the work on simple things.

We've come back to Skoda and very pleased. The car doesn't feel like it's done 75k miles and the engine is much nicer than the trashy and asthmatic 1.6 in the kia.

The newer kia and Hyundai's do look much better but the price had to rise with it.

I would consider another but they really need to revamp their petrol line up with more euro relevant engines.

the current engines in the new i20 are euro VI complaint, the 2014 1.2 i10 is only euro V compliant but has an extra 3 bhp

after 2000 miles the 1.2 engine on my i20 is far better than when I picked it up and not far behind the 1.2TSi in the daughters rapid spaceback, and talking to her yesterday I am past her MPG, the only thing the TSi has is better low end grunt due to the turbo

I am not sure if kia and Hyundai share engine tech

I had the official towbar fitted when I bought my i20, as I downsized from my prvious skoda fabia estate to a i20 hatch, I have a small box trailer already so thought I could compromise with the hatch so long as I could use my trailer when I needed more space

I have had the rear box knocking again the underside since new (not often but enough to be a minor annoyance), it was booked in yesterday for investigation.

I can't fault the service of the dealer, dropped car off at 8am, I explained the issue showed the service person you could move the exhaust by hand and I knocked and left it with them, I returned for noon as requested,

as I suspected it is a design fault , the rear box mounting point doesn't leave enough room for the normal movement of the rear box when the towbar is fitted, so it knocks against some of the steelwork for the towbar. they will be raising it with Hyundai, I suspect it will only need a revised rear mount rubber to give a bit more room

credit to them they have done something which has given me a peaceful drive now, given me a reasonable explanation and answered some questions. better service than I expected

yeah my dads cirst santa fe had a knock from front left corner 3 monhs after picking it up brand new. After a couple of investigations it got traced back to a slightly bend engine mount that only caused a problem once everything had bedded in. They redsigned it a little and replaced the mount. Never gave any more trouble. Decent service all dound really

well a week later and silence, no knocking from the rear so they appear to have fixed it
