Hi all,

 

Brake lights staying on - having to disconnect battery to avoid running down. Started yesterday.

 

After a bit of internet research, am assuming is the brake light switch above the pedal needs replacing. This seems the most common cause of this fault. Local garage then.

Hi there yes it would be the switch and you could change it your self

Yes, it is. Repair the brake switch yourself. You can't get cheaper than this.

On second thought, check if

• the brake pedal returns freely all the way up
• the plastic sleeve of the pedals axle (1) is worn out (very common)
• the small tab on the brake pedal lever (2) pushes enough the plunger of the switch in stand by
• the plastic plunger of the brake switch (3) is slightly worn out and the position of the switch needs an adjustment.

The pedal box on the right hand drive models is not the same as the above picture, but i will agree it probably just needs adjustment.

Can you post a similar exploded illustration to see the difference ? I can't imagine what part on my illustration is located differently...
