EGR Adaptation for my Skoda Octavia 2006

Featured Replies

hi I have just changed my EGR valve and have been advised that I should Adapt my EGR using me VCDS but i am having trouble finding much in to on this other than whats below.  i'm just want to know if anyone else has had to do this after fitting a new EGR valve and if so things like what was the password, what are the best setting so that the valve last longer, any help is much appreciated.

I plugged in VCDS today and decided to change the EGR setting. It's adaption default value is 32768 which is about 270 mg/stroke. I first altered it to 33768 (370 mg/stroke) which is the maximum setting. I then finally decided on 33268 (320 mg/stroke) and took the car for a drive. It would seem the the drivability has slightly improved, and the small hesitation I get on acceleration is better. Also my fuel economy seems a bit better, up by about 5%. A 75 mile run today returned about 53mpg. Previously the same run would've achieved 50-51mpg.

Usually you would want to decrease the value. Increasing the value increases the amount of exhaust gasses the car draws in.

It's better to have less of this dirty air coming in (for clean running of the engine at least... not so much the emissions).

What type of roads was your 75 mile run?

Hi Phil the below is what someone else has tried which I was able to pick up from the internet, my problem is he never put the step by step guide when in VCDS and this is what I am after as I have had a look but cant see how to do it.

Ah right. I think I've realised something.

Which variant of the 1.9 was that guy using? Since around 2004 from the BLT onwards (euro 4) I'm almost certain you can't adjust the EGR duty cycle.
