will arbars from golf mk7 fit 2015 Octavia awd scout?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I am looking into ameliorating the initial lurch/body roll of my scout 110 tdi. I assume that given this is a MQB platform vehicle that golf mk7 may fit. I have the multilink rear end and the car is a 2015 model awd with a 31mm (1 inch and a bit more) increased ride height over the standard Octavia estates.

I have looked up the Eibach part numbers but am not totally sure they are interchangeable. I am in Australia so our choices are a tad more limited that what you enjoy on the continent.

I am also thinking of lowering it a we bit anyway if it doesnt affect roll centres etc. I am fairly sue they achieve the increased ride height through taller springs and increased aspect ratio tyres.

I would appreciate any knowledge that is out there

Thanks

Nick

Ok, I have to ask.

Why Buy a Scout and then lower it? Or dont you get the regular 4x4 versions?

Hello

No we dont get the regular awd versions. I debated on telling fibs with some long winded answer to prolong your suffering but I felt it best not to.

The Skoda brand in Australia is hobbled by VAG (Volkswagen Audi Australia) as it would take too many sales from the more expensive badges. I would have loved an AWD estate but its not available.

Lowering it a bit maybe an inch wouldnt handicap it too much I surmise.

Nick, id guess there will be a fair bit of cross compatibility with MQB platform cars as there were with previous platform generations. First thing id do is check the actual thickness of the current bars and then look at something that's a couple of mm thicker from the aftermarket companies. The Golf would probably have to have the same suspension and drivetrain setup - not sure if MQB haldex cars still need specifically shaped rear bas to avoid contact with the awd gubbins. Be aware that the Scout may well run slightly thicker bars than a normal (lower) fwd Octavia already; certainly the Yeti 1.8tsi and the Golf Plus (a slightly loftier version of the standard Golf) run the Golf R arb's front and rear.

Golf plus is no longer made, It's a Golf SV (sports van) which is MQB with the Octavia wheelbase length as the golf wheelbase length is 2inch shorter than the Octavia.

Any front end bars from Golf MQB will fit, any rear bars for MQB 4wd will fit, all the same wishbones,

FWD golf estate europe rear parts here which end in AQ to AT

4WD Golf estate here with ARB ending in BB etc, so these could be different to the FWD ones, but these have a diameter from 18.7mm to 21.7mm

Golf R bars are thicker and fitted as standard to the Golf Plus, Altea, Yeti etc, SV is irrelevant in this example - I said I see no reason for this thinking to be different on MQB now so worth a check of the diameter of the Scout bars before deciding on replacements ie not to assume they are standard thinner Octy arb's.

errr..................

Golf Plus, Altea & Yeti are not MQB platform.......................MK3 Octi, Golf MK7, Golf SV are MQB....................you are getting your MK5/6 Golf platform mixed up with your MK7 Golf platform

EDIT

Just had a look & thickest rear ARB in Golf Plus 2013 is part ending 409CA & is 20.7 x 2.8mm

For Golf on same MK6 Platform is part ending 409F & is 21.7 x 3.6mm..............

For Yeti on same platform part ending in 409BP 19.6 x 2.6mm

For Altea on same platform part ending 409CB 21.7 x 3mm

So Golf has a thick ARB fitted as standard compared to Golf Plus, Altea, & Yeti on MK6 platform, it would fit any of the others as a retro fit on MK6 platform. But the OP is talking about MQB which has different ARBs

No I'm not getting mixed up in anyway at all, re read my posts as I can't make it any simpler. The relevance is there throughout the platform as it is with mqb. Point being taller versions already run thicker bars, MQB or not.

yes you are & no the tallest car versions do not have the thickest wall or diameter,

Just re-read the info which is from ETKA which I posted, the golf (hatch) has the thickest wall & diameter available for standard fit & it is this one you would get to fit a MK6 platform, not the ones from Yeti or Altea as they are NOT the thickest wall or diameter!

no, I'm not I'm afraid. I've pulled them off the said cars and double checked the part codes before actually trying them. The factory parts on my 1.8tsi are golf r parts. I only realised this when the R bars turned up and they were identical - part code and all. I'll leave it there though as you obviously know better. ;) Best of luck to the OP though, Scouts are the jewel of the Octavia range IMO. :)

I never stated that the thickest one was "R"....just that the Golf hatch & estate has the thickest wall & diameter available as standard fit & that is correct from ETKA.......................

"R" may not have the thickest.......even the Audi TTRS is thinner on the same platform...............

To the OP for MQB MK7 Golf (2013 AU onwards) the thickest ARB rear is part 5Q0 511 305 BE which is 21.7 x 3mm.............

So what is the number for your "R" ones then?.

EDIT

Just had a look at Yeti rear ARB thickest available is 1K0 511 409 BH or BP which is 19.6 x 2.6mm..............which also appears on Golf platform, BUT thickest listed for Golf (hatch or estate) is same part number but ending in 409 "E" which is a 21.7 x 3.6mmm..............probably of a diesel estate which used the same rear frame/suspension on the MK6 Golf...............

See I know better.............. :p

You'd certainly like to think you know better but unfortunately you're simply taking (incorrect) info from ETkA and posting it on a forum. The standard rear arb on my Yeti was 21.7mm and matched the part code on a mk6 R bar that arrived (and Scirocco R iirc). Enough time wasted though and back on topic as the OP's thread is heading way off topic! (Mods please feel free to remove my posts to keep it more relevant to the original question) thanks.

Well Scirocco has thickest arb as standard fit part ending 409F which is 21.7 x 3.6mm..............which is same size as Golf thickest, ...................god knows how you ended up with a ARB that thick when ETKA shows for Yeti the thickest/biggest is part ending in 409BP 19.6 x 2.6mm.

I am doing what is termed a "general search" without VIN numbers, so just based on vehicle type for Europe & all I have posted is the thickest wall & biggest diameter that is showing up as standard fit for any version for that model of vehicle. The info is correctly taken from ETKA.

Anyway the Golf "Alltrack" estate which is 4x4 & raise suspension is out in UK at the end of June so maybe info will turn up on that? as all I can find for MQB MK7 Golf (2013 AU onwards) the thickest ARB rear is part 5Q0 511 305 BE which is 21.7 x 3mm.............

Even had a look at Whiteline which is Australian (where the OP is) & they don't list MK7 Golf only MK6............

Hi Guys.

My car is at the dealers tomorrow for them to check wheel alignment.. car still wanders.. it feels like you have to constantly correct it so Im guessing toe in. The mark 3 is pityful in cross winds as far as I can gather.

When the car is at the dealers I will have him measure my AR bars and post for you. I am going to ask the spare parts guy to verify the suspension components as well.. ie. are the wishbones etc for a scout the same part number as other octys.

I have ascertained that the car whilst feeling well damped floats like mohamad Ali at speed; the best analogy I can give is it is like a fully trimmed speed boat.. its connected but floaty if that makes sense.

I am going to change the springs for firmer ones.. my good lady got car sick again yesterday which means body roll obviously. I think arbars first then maybe 30% stiffer springs. Afterwards (contingent to anti roll bars working).

I wonder what the spring rates for series 2 to series 3 scouts are in general?

Will keep you posted

Nick
