My boost guage!

Featured Replies

Well, in trying to get some shots of my tacky cr4p attempt at sticking down something for my navman mount to adhere to, I got some shots of the boost guage - 1 with flash on, showing more detail and the other with the flash off, showing hown it looks at night. How far do you reckon I'll be bending that needle around soon? Had it knocking on the door of 1.5 bar even though the turbo is supposed to be electronically limited to 1.35 bar.

Story around it positioning in that old vent slot was I had a smashed slat so was going to replace the unit behind the fascia anyway - Came to think of spots for my podless guage to sit and couldn't see anywhere subtle. Offered it up to the hole left in the vent, and it actually fitted well, could be angled to be face on to me, and is held in quite tightly. Pressure guage is tapped straight into the inlet manifold using a bolted up grub screw tapping thing. ;) (Can you tell I didn't fit it? :D) and power comes from headlight switch when sidelights are on, and earth is to bolt near fuse box. :D All in all, a crass attempt at fitting a boost guage, but its different, it works, and I like it.

I have some carbon fibre sheet left over from some bike stuff I was doing, proper stuff, not fake carbon. You can have some to fabricate a plate and cut a hole in for the guage if tou wanted to try m8.

Not sure where I'd shove it though. :( I like the way it sits there facing me dead on, even if the passenger is looking at it in not such a nice place....

Thanks for the offer, appreciated.

After all your hard work, don't live with a F@@@ up like that. Buy a pillar pod or simlar.

Sorry but my HO.

Nothing been developed for the Fabia yet though. :(

It seems like no-ones really though of making them. Hmmm, untapped market there then. ;) Their is literally nowhere else obvious to stick one of these damn things.... its too big for most inconspicuous places (like maybe in place of a couple of blanked off buttons)

For now it will do as its a "function over form" priority at the moment for me (car lacks form, has lot of function though) If anyone had any links to pods this guage might fit in, that could stick on the dash above the centre air vent, or closer to the driver, please let me know. Don't fancy drilling holes through the dash for the three pipes though.

Hmmmm, found these - I wonder if my guage would fit in that - 52mm seems small - I'm sure my guage is closer to 70mm ish?

Jason, there was a picture on here the other day , somebody with a 3 gauge pod fitter to the drivers A pillar. But like you say 3 pipes would be a pain to plumb. You could just tidy it up with a bit plastic from a scrap dash you must have some lying around.

As odd as it sounds, considering the amount of cr4p I've been doing, I haven't.

I like the centre one on the speeding website - seems easy enough to fit and I'd rather plumb in close to where the existing pipes/wires are that re-route totally.

Shall see. I want the car running reliably and solidly first. :)

That would look a lot more finished than the rustic look, come on Jason it's a Skoda. :)

yep as mush as I hate to say it and believe me I do Andrew is right! :D

I thought my car could do with some extra **** appeal! :P

For your info Jay, the pod mount is a standard universal mount that was custom made to fit, it took 7 hours all in and a fair bit of a labour charge.

If your good with your hands and take your time I'm sure you could do it your self, I on the other hand is the Frank Spencer of motor mechanics!

Oh and jay dont opt for the carbon fibre one as it look sh*te

Dude what did you do to your AC vent? :(

Get it moulded or something. Otherwise,

All you could need to do is cannibalise a normal gauge pod.

Similar to my tweeter builds.

Ross - I like that! But afraid to install something that way into one of my A-pillar trims...

For now its remaining where it is - After all, the car is a project still, even when I stop doing lots of things to it.

Nomad would design and make A-pillar pods for a car if they get a order of 10.

;)

I really meant using the same idea to make a better mount in your centre vent.
