New Golf GTi

Featured Replies

Just had a go in one of these

I have to say it was very very nice and if the new octy vRS is anything like as good then it should be a top car.

My mate was kind enough to let me have a drive and even though he is still running it in ;) you could tell it was a beast of a car. But it was not too harsh a ride. In fact on normal roads at normal speeds it felt quite refined.

hopefully he will let me have another go when he has run it in properly

Looks a nice motor, but not worth 20k in my mind...

I sort of agree with you. If the Octy vRS is as good then i think 17.5k is still a good price for one. You are getting more or less the same car but more car if you follow me

The Skoda guys here went for training in Czech recently. They got to drive both the Golf GTi MK5 and the Octi vRS Mk2 for comparison...majority of them voted for the Octi, no bias involved mind you.

I'd go along with your thinking. Wouldn't consider a GTI but would consider an Octy at that price. Bit more practical I think with more boot space over the Golf. Plus the estate version being available.

Depending on what happens over the next few years, I could happily see myself in a new Octy vRS estate - diesel or petrol :D

Is there anything that comes as standard on the new vRS that doesn't on the Golf GTi?

The Golf GTi comes with the option of paddle-shifting...don't know if that's the same with the Octi...

Nothing mentioned in Skoda's latest press pack. But it's just a matter of time surely!

Think I'm right with the GTI, it's half-leather, ie the seat bolsters.

Think half-leather was confirmed on the VRS too. Again, you'll have to check to be sure.

My mate has got the full leather in his with heated seats too. I am sure i read somewhere that the vRS was better equipped in standard form but maybe i dreamt that one

In the Golf GTI brochure it says it comes with "Interlagos" cloth, doesn't mention half leather... Leather is a
