Unmade/gravel roads around Yorkshire?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Apologies if this isn't quite the right section for this.

Just wondering if there are still any unmade/unpaved roads around West Yorkshire/the Pennines/North Peak District kind of area?

Basically I'm bored, and my housemate was telling me a few weeks ago that a couple of years ago he stumbled upon Cold Edge Road between Hipperholme and Oxenhope nr Halifax/Bradford and that at the time it was totally unmade... He did it in a Polo in winter in the dark and nearly got stuck but that's another story. Anyway we went to explore and it, along with a number of other roads in the area, have now been tarmac'd.

I'm not interested in one of those 4x4 experience things (I'm skint) and I do only have a completely stock Fabia so I don't want some mud trench deep in a forest - just somewhere that's gravel/dirt/stony/grass - a bit like a bridleway, but with free public motorcar access; I'm not looking to get shot up by an angry farmer or arrested for trespass!

Anyone know of anywhere like this? There must stil be some rural roads or country lanes that are untouched? Alternatively how can I find out if/where these roads are?

I'm based in Huddersfield.

Cheers!

I used to live in Todmorden and most of those roads feel like they are untarmaced. But that doesnt help you, the website shared above is what I use.

This one is good, but not in a Fabia unless it is lifted, and not with a paper air filter or standard air intake.
