two amps

Featured Replies

hi all

i am not a bass head nor do i want to burst my ear drums with volume i just want a nice clear sound. my head unit only has one rca output but i want to run two amps one for the sub and one for the infinity componants in the front.i have two amps so dont want to be buying a multi channel one and i like my head unit so would want to keep that.On one of the amps there is an rca out as well as an input if i link the two amps together will i be able to use them separately as in one for the front and one for the sub or does doing this just turn them into one big amp?also if i can do this how will i separate the fade so the front is louder than the back  will it be by the controls on the amps.i presume the fader on the head unit will only have the fronts working and no rears because of the single rca output.?

thanks

What amps are they? Some Amps can be wired using the speaker wires from your head unit as thier input..

hi TeflonTom

ive had the amps quite a while but they are still mint but sadly they dont accept speaker wire inputs.I have had a thought tho, I have seen on fleabay speaker output  to rca converters and i thought maybe i can use the wires from the rear speakers for a signal and convert them to rca and just plug that into the amp, that way i will still have front and rear fader control.seems a bit heath robinson but if it works hey problem solved..

Yes exactly that, it's like a twin rca phono plug to 4x leads, or single ones with one phono and 2 wires. You can make them yourself for a few pence if you can get the right components but ready made ones are a simple fix.

As you only have one set of pre-outs you will get some issues. Mainly lack of control from your headunit.

The pre-out you have is really designed as a sub out although most headunits will have a hidden menu where you can change this from sub to full range.

If you run a single RCA and then split it using Y splitters you will need to make sure the RCA out is set to full range. This will remove your sub control's as the RCA is now a full range output not a sub output.

If you keep it to sub out and then use a high level input (mentioned above) you will retain your sub level controls etc. As you say its a bit heath robinson but if you are adament you want to keep the headunit and not go down the one amp route then I think its your best option
