Skoda Octavia 2004 2.0 TDI PD 140 - what engine Oil

Featured Replies

Had my Skoda now for a 1000 miles, really happy with the car. Checked the oil this morning. Pretty hard to read the engine oil level on the dipstick. The dipstick is black and the engine oil is very dark.  But hasn't lost any oil.

But what is the best Oil to get. Ive read you need to get VAG PD oil for the car to be in the best shape. Does VAG PD engine Oil just mean it needs to be 5w30 that meets VW 504/507 long life?

Is this stuff the best to use? Or should is it better to buy direct from dealer?

Thanks for your help in advance

Well This will Get Many Responses I am Sure, I've just changed the Oil and Filter myself in mine and I used The Triple Q stuff from ECP, its the one in the black Can specific for PD Engines and meets / Exceeds VW 505.01 etc.

I went for a 5-40 instead of 5-30 as now at 8 years old and 71k on the clock I went with something a little thicker.

I'm sure many will tell you different, And I am fully aware how important the right oil is for the PD Engines.

Just anything that complies with the VAG standards.

507 is the most recent one. Meant to be for cars with DPF (low ash content) but also for any PD engine. I used Triple QX 507 oil on my last service.

Phil

As Phil Said, 507 is the most recent, But many suppliers still seem to list them as 505.01 approved which we know is also fine.

The Triple Q Stuff at ECP is on offer at the mo for £24.99 for a 5 litre Can, And the filter was only a few quid too.

I can only see the triple Q stuff is for 5w40. The 5w30 stuff is on offer but £35.

The 5w40 stuff is 505

5w30 507

not sure what I should get now.

Also mine doesn't have a DPF.

Bit confused now as I see the 5w40 stuff clearly says for PD engines on front, but the 5w30 doesnt. Basically im not worried about saving a tenner I just want to put in the best stuff.

Thanks for your help

Mine does not have a DPF Either and I know the older 505.01 spec is what was originally specified for the PD.

I read on a forum somewhere that 5-40W was what they put in at the factory apparently.

Either way 5-40 to 505.01 or 507 spec is perfect for the PD, Especially with a few miles on the clock.

I use Quantum long life 507 spec(Gold Coloured bottle) mine doesn't have DPF, About £28 delivered from Audi dealer.
