Rear spring height

Featured Replies

Had a spring break on the rear drivers side of my 2009 FL Octavia VRS estate, however I have had it repaired, which I had too wait for springs as he said they were supposed to be factory lowered springs but it seems a bit high.

Is there a correct ride height for the vehicle as the front suspension is 3 fingers high from tyre to bottom centre of the wheel arch but I can get a full clenched fist on tyre to bottom centre of wheel arch, and because it has been done have I seen another VRS estate to compare it against, seems as likely as winning the lottery!

Thanks for any information regarding the above problem

New springs will always sit a bit high to begin with, then settle to the proper ride height. If you can get a clenched fist between the true and the arch, I would say you have the wrong springs but could be wrong. I have 2008 diesel pre fl hatch and the height from the top of the rear arch to the ground is 26 inches, this could be a good reference point to start with. I've just had my fronts done and I think they are sitting a bit high, so I'm watching the height very close before I go back to the garage.

The springs are colour coded.  Did the old spring colours match the new?

1) You need the PR code off the build sticker.  For a "lowered" estate it should be PR-1JC

2) You then have to look for something like 0YA or 0YB /C / D / E / F - right through to L (missing I).  Yes there are 11 different rear spring partnos for a vRS.

This may help:

Thanks for that, very good piece of information, best see if I can see any colours on the springs, and if not right it will be going back!
