Defector!

Featured Replies

Well the time has come. I've finally done it. My beloved mk1 ( Silvia as my 11yo lass called her ) has gone to her new owner. £1,800 asked and got local owner so i may still see her from time to time. Although this might not be a good thing!! He's assured me he will look after her although he'll have my daughter to answer to if he doesn't we know his address!! Anyway, he said he'd been looking for a vrs for a while and was travelling to view one that weekend when mine came up. He's over the moon with it and imo he'd struggle to get one as good as mine for that money. It was like a brand new car underneath having all new bushes, shocks, springs, top mounts, battery, dogbone, fsh, oil and filters just changed with new strainer and a book full of receipts for everything. So after much dithering for over a year i made the decision and she sold the same day. Mk2 Octavia Vrs tdi is my new steer so I'm staying on Briskoda can't get rid of me too easy!! Such a great car the mk1 though I've never had a car so long i was a little sad when he drove off in her it felt a bit weird!! But its done now and my new one is lovely tbh but I'm missing the mk1 already! A big thank you to everyone who's helped me out over the years great bunch and I'd like to think I've helped a little when i can.

Hopefully it's gone to a good home and will be looked after. How many miles had the car done?

I do hope so buddy my daughter was crying when he came for it i felt terrible!! The car was on 122k and honestly i swear it felt like it was getting better!! Some machine...

He's got a nice car there, make sure you pop in from time to time dude. Your input has been much appreciated.

If you're anything like me you'll keep popping back into this part of the forum as you'll start to miss your Mk1.  I still regret letting mine go and I'm convinced I'll get another some day as a project or our daily car as there's something about them that other cars can't quite touch.  No doubt you'll be happy with your Mk2 though and it'd be interesting to see you do a comparison in a while to see how the two fare against each other.

Yeah I've seen a lot of your posts about selling your mk1 and how you regret it. I actually thought of them right at the point i pressed the post button on gumtree. When my ownership of the mk2 settles down I'll do a comparison. First impressions are the newer car is obviously quieter more refined but with that comes issues like feeling a little isolated. The mk1 feels alive when driven you hear and feel everything. Going from petrol to diesel is a massive change as well totally different power delivery but these 170 diesels do go well I'm surprised. The stereo is a lot better in the new car, the boot is even bigger than the mk1 and that wasn't small, the interior i have to say is a very nice place to be a big step up in quality. Fine car the mk1 though, I'll not forget that machine. A faithful old friend i feel like a cheating defector or something right now!!

Thanks a lot buddy great car i am gonna miss it loads i know i am. As the new owner was looking for one i did tell him he'd be stupid not to buy it!! Fantastic car pal it drove like a new one. I did take it for a spirited drive before he picked it up and opened her up a little down a nice straight and couldn't believe i was selling it it went so well. I still think it was time to move on though me and the car getting older!!

Yeah, I'll have to stop mentioning it and get on with my life.  Either that or separation therapy. :D

I've never been in a diesel vRS so would be intrigued to know how well they go.  I'd imagine the initial shove is quite impressive but wonder how quickly it fades compared to other diesels I've driven in the past.  I'm still not a convert to diesels yet but that could be because I'm a dinosaur who is still under the impression that digital watches are quite cool....

As for you getting older & possibly more sensible I'm heading the other way as the years pass and my cars are getting faster and less sensible. :notme:

I have a digital watch i love it!! Your about bang on tbh low down grunt is impressive but i really need to change up sooner it just doesn't have the top end pull of the 1.8t. It doesn't feel quite as quick but to be fair it aint slow!! Its fast enough for me now buddy I'm not ready for pipe and slippers just yet but not too far away!

Yeah sometimes like you say it's time to move on, I definitely think you had one of the good ones that managed to avoid many of the common issues, mine on the other hand seems like everything that can happen on a mk1 is happening to mine, still love it though. Put it this way if I ever do get rid of it it will be for a newer more refined vrs like you've done, probably not diesel though but I've no doubt it's a nice thing you've got there.

This reminds me of the time I saw my Corrado get driven off up the road, very sad day.

I only changed car for cheaper road tax and better economy tbh i wouldn't have got a mk2 petrol as i don't think it'd be much more economical than my mk1. It goes well the tdi and cruising in 6th on the motorway is a very comfortable experience.

I bet it is, they do seem like nice places to be inside. I quite miss my Toledo V5 when I get on the motorway, for its age that was pretty refined. I see why you've made the move and it sounds like you'll be happy with it, nice one mate, all the best with it.

P.s isn't it time we had a little piccy?

Lol its probably long past that time. The plan was to give it a good wash today and get some pictures up but the weather has been disgraceful for supposed summer time so i couldn't get at it. I'll take some dirty car pictures tomorrow tell me what you think!!

Yeah do it, by the way don't write summer off yet it's not even started (I remain optimistic).

That's something else that age errodes. Optimism! In the weather anyway. Its been like December up here today.

Don't worry I'm a grumpy old man at heart, think I'm just kidding myself!
